Probably just step up to the top line reel next purchase.

I bought this reel to go on a G. Loomis Bucara rod for lighter bottom fishing here in Louisiana around the near shore rigs. The reel is very compact and the size fit well with the rod and the intended application. However, I have found some things about this reel that I do not like. The first was when I was mounting the bottom clamp to the reel I started noticing small metal shards falling on the table. This was caused by the mounting screw digging into the side of the gear box. I got it on and tight, but the gear box was too close to the screw post and the only way to get the clamp srewed on tight required removal of some of the metal (poor sizing tolerance). The next surprise came when I loaded it with line and found that I could only get 268 yards of 40# Power Pro on the reel. It is advertised as holding 400 yards of 40# "spectra" line. The power pro is advertised as "Power Pro Spectra". I know some Spectra lines are thinner, but I can't imagine any being so much thinner as to allow 400 yards of line. This reel is really small. The handle is the best feeling handle I have held. I usually use Shimano reels and this one feels much better in my hand than my Talicas. Also, the inside wall of the gear box is plastic (the side opposite the handle mounts) - which I was surprised to see. I would have expected the entire gear box to be solid metal. I am concerned about how that will hold up. I have yet to try it on a fish, but will give it a try, but I could see this one on ebay in the near future and replaced with another Talica 8.
Pros:Small, great feeling handle. Great looking reel. Price point is okay, but must be considered against relative value (so may not be a pro).
Cons:Some poor machining tolerances (in some areas at least), partial plastic gear box cover, holds only a fraction of the advertised line capacity, does not come with any instructions. You have to go on their website for info and the website is a mess.
