The Striper Strike delivers long casts, unsurpassed durability and trophy-tough hardware. An excellent choice for fishing surf, below dams or anywhere long-casting surface lures are needed. The Striper Strike does not float and is designed to be retrieved quickly.

Not my favorite topwater
Have to work them fast to keep the lure on the surface. I agree with other reviews, not really a popper, more of a pencil stick bait. I purchased the metallic one and the chrome paint is chipping off after just a few outings. Have yet to catch a fish on it.

Highly Effective if Used Properly
This lure should be used when the water is pretty calm and there is bait near the surface so that the bass are surface oriented. It is also important to give it the proper action: get it moving slowly as soon as it hits the water to keep it from sinking then skitter it across the surface about 6 feet then pop it gently a couple times and repeat until a striper knocks the you- know- what out of it. I've had real good luck with Striper Strikes for over 50 years but you've got to use them properly.
ProsImitates a panicked baitfish Casts like a bullet Spectacular hits
Consrequires a certain degree of operator skill

Better worked as a pencil
Great little lure for bass and blues. Work it more like a pencil than a regular popper.

Time tested lure
This lure has stood the test of time and continues to catch fish today. It casts very well and must be retrieved quickly with some pumping action to cause surface disruption. I swap out the rear treble hook with a single dressed hook.
Conshooks may rust if not rinsed.

Should've been a 3 and half star rating, but 4 will do. Its not a 3 star because it catches fish, but the finish does not hold up well and starts to bubble and peel after a couple outings. Hooks and all metal components start to rust quickly, even if rinsed in fresh water and dried. Metallic color worked best for me during the fall run a couple years ago. Lure has good action and appearence, easy to match the hatch when baitfish is in the 4-6 inch range and silver or white in color, but I prefer a Atom Striper Swiper instead now. Its also a subsurface popper, it is not a surface popper, so it is meant to sink after the pop or when sitting still.
ProsCasts well and can match the hatch.
ConsFinish bubbles and peels after a couple outings and all metal components rust quickly.
