I have Shimano Stradic 5000 reel that cost me four times as much as the Daiwa Excelier 4500. This spinning reel is a little heavier, but operates just as smoothly as the Shimano I bought three years ago. The shimano is due for an overhaul, and it will cost me over $40.00. I paid $45.00 for this brand new Daiwa(two for the price of one promo) and it is every bit as good as the Shimano. Plus, it holds a hundred yards more of 15# braid. Wonderful bonus to have. I am very happy and satisfied with my Daiwa Excelier, and will recommend it to others, especially at the promotional price.
ProsSmooth winding and drag operation. A well balanced reel
ConsA little on the heavy side.

Hi I made a purchase and forgot to make sure that I was getting the other one. To my surprise, when the package arrived there was only one reel. I called as soon as I opened the package. The customer service was great. He informed me of the problem and in a few days received the other one. Thanks to customer service. Very pleased with reel and your service. Looking forward to doing business with you in the future. Thank you Joe

This is a nice reel for the price, have not had a chance to fish it but it looks and feels like a quality reel.

No this isn't a whiskey promo just an explanation of the results I've experienced with this reel mounted on a Diawa LEXA 671MXS rod. Have used it throwing flukes on 20 lb braid with fluoro leader. Very sensitive rod with quick pickup and smooth as silk reel. Not sure how it'd work on reds in the salt but it does fine on bass. My first Diawa spinning reel after using Shimano 2500 & 4000 models FOREVER. Another + was the no fail bail spring compared with Shimano. They ALL might have it now ? Price is comparable to Shimano 4500 & $10 more than Shimano 2500. You won't be dissatisfied.
ProsSmooth & Light - Seems to be a quality made reel. Have used it for maybe 50 hours.
ConsCost may be slightly more than comparable models. You get what you pay for though.

Are these reels ok to use for inshore fishing or should they be kept in freshwater?
These reels would work for inshore fishing, but they may not hold up very well if exposed to too much salt water.
