The G-Loomis IMX SURF rods is a series of extremely powerful, high-modulus, light weight spinning rods designed specifically for the long-range casts required to successfully fish the surf. These rods range from 8’ to 11’, with line-ratings varying from 12- to 40-pound test and lure ratings from 1/2 to 6-ounces. A durable and unique new handle design features our new "sure-grip technology" and a unique "micro-adjust" reel seat that allows you to set your reel position according to the length of your arms, with a full 5-inches of adjustment range. Another exciting feature on these lightweight pieces of surf artillery is the new "tangle-proof" Fuji K-Frame Alconite guide system. The frames on these guides lean forward so line flows freely and efficiently. Even if the line comes off the spool in a wide arc, it won't catch or wrap on the frame. Whether you fish monofilament or Power Pro, you'll be in total control and able to achieve maximum casting distance with this new technology. It's an aggressive, no-holds-barred, "reach out there and get you some" series of surf rods for the true fanatics of the beach crowd and it doesn't matter if you fish from the rocks, the docks, the sand or the reef... it’s bombs away!

A $7.00 oversize packaging charge may apply to these items as they ship in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.

Awesome rod!!!
This is, by far, my all time favorite rod that I use off of the beach. It is as light as a feather and paired with a VS200, I can get the cast out further than most people from the surf. This is an awesome rod that will have no problem bringing in big fish onto the beach, and it is great whether you're bait fishing or throwing plugs!
ProsGreat warranty

IMX 10' 1-3oz
At first glance I was a little suspect if the rod could handle big fish because of how light and thin the rod is. I have been fishing my IMX on and off the last 3 seasons in the back bays around my house and the ocean. It handled cocktail blues and keeper sized stripers very well and the rod felt like there was still more power left if I needed it. On one of my days off this past summer, some bigger blues, 8-12 lbers, starting blitzing. I landed 4 of them and I felt the rods true power, I could feel it bend to the bottom half of the rod for the reserve power I felt before. The rod also loads very easily and casts well throughout the 1-3oz range. 1 and 3 oz lures cut down on distance, but 2 1/4 to 2 3/8 felt like the sweet spot for maximum distance. Atomizers and SS little neck poppers would go about 100 to 125 yards. I also like the adjustable reel seat and after a few adjustments I found the sweet spot for my arm length and casting style. I love my IMX and recommend it to everyone.

Which surf rod would be best for throwing 1 1/2 ti 2 1/2 metal lures to jacks, small tuna, and Bonita in the surf in mazatlan Mexico ? iMx 1204-2s 10 ft vs 1264-2s 10ft 6 in. Looking for greatest possible distance. What are the differences between the rods. G loomis rods surf rods. Both rods seem to have the same ratting.
They have the same specs because they are essentially the same rod, the 10'6" is just longer. The 10'6" should give you a slight edge on distance, just because of the extra length. If you are looking for maximum distance using metals, I would also check out the CTS S8 series.

What's the guide size like on these rods? I'm looking to set one up with a conventional reel but I haven't seen the rod yet.
These rods are all spinning rods. I would not recommend that you put a conventional reel on one and try to use it. If you still want to, give us a call or email us at and we can measure them for you.

What would be good matching reels for the g Loomis is surf 1085 2s rod?. Thanks
That depends on how you are fishing and what for. If you are in the surf and getting the reel splashed and submerged while using it, the go for a Van Staal 150. If you are standing on a beach and not subjecting the reel to the water, you could use a Penn Spinfisher 5000, Shimano Stradic FJ 5000, or Quantum Cabo 40. All of these are great reels and will match up to the rod very well.
