G-Loomis Smallmouth Bass Bronzeback Rods
by G Loomis
It takes some subtle techniques and special gear to trick them consistently... that's exactly why we developed the "BRONZEBACK SERIES" rods. They're for special anglers to catch a special fish.

It takes some subtle techniques and special gear to trick them consistently... that's exactly why we developed the "BRONZEBACK SERIES" rods. They're for special anglers to catch a special fish. They feature our legendary high-density, super sensitive graphite blanks, a definite ADVANTAGE when the bite is light, which is most of the time. It's an advantage only G.Loomis anglers can enjoy and appreciate. Smallmouth have a tendency to nip and pick at lures, but sometimes the strike can be ferocious. As the fish move deeper towards their summer haunts, the bite becomes more difficult to detect. That's why we've designed "Bronzeback" rods with quick, responsive tips, providing anglers with EXCEPTIONAL sensitivity, while the mid and lower sections are dynamically powerful, giving you total control fighting the fish, whether you're on the bank or in a boat. The casting rods feature "MAG-TOUCH" blank-thru-handle construction, giving you more control and feel; while the spinning rods have our special reversed reel seat with a short fore-cork, so you can put your finger on the blank if you're so inclined. It puts your reel in a more forward position for better balance and casting accuracy.
Great jerk bait rod

This rod is just amazing. I got the 6-9 jerk bait rod. I was a little worried that the moderate fast bend was not going to be good for jerk baits, but oh man was I wrong. This rod has just the right action to work your jerk baits and top waters but when you set the hook it has some give so that the hook don't just rip right through the fishes mouth. Took this rod up to rainy lake and this thing was great. It was strong enought to hold up to gaint pike up to 35 inches that I hooked going for smallmouth. If you need a jerk bait rod for smallmouth then this is the one and I don't work for g loomis or any thing. It is just a great rod.

I only fish topwater finess, usually with a Rapala f-5 or f-7. never fish more than four feet deep.I have tried and used many types of rods to accomplish this. While lots of rods will work, and some of them really well, this is by far the best rod for this type fishing. It is a very acurate short to medium castin rod.I have thrown 1/32 and 1/16 Joes flies suitably with this rod.You can impart very accurate action with this rod.No other topwater rod works as well as this.I have used very similiar rods with microguides that are close but the quality of the blank and short (+1) handle are an unbeatable combination. If Loomis would offer this rod with microguides it would be unbeatable. It is not made for large lures or to cast anything a long distance, but if you want the most accurate casting and unmatched feel of the lure this is the best. This rod gives me great confidence when I use, maybe it most impotant quality.I know I can hit ant sized spot within its casting range.
ProsLight weight, high quality blank and componets, perfect handle size for intended use,
Conswish it was availiable with microguides

When G Loomis went to make a Smallmouth rod, they had a lot to consider. Strong pull, current, quick aggresive runs, and the need to pull fish out of cover quickly. They took all this into consideration and created a monster. I fish the 6' 3" med heavy rod as my main rod for both smallies and largemouth now. Light jigs, weightless plastics, and small jerkbaits are a breeze to fish with it. The rod has enough power to horse huge LMB out of heavy cover, coerce smallmouth away from rocks, and has even caught catfish up to 10 lbs. This rod never disappoints and since they come in a little cheaper than the IMX series, I think they are a value buy if the type of fishing you do lends to one of these technique specific rods.
ProsBackbone Solid Construction Sensitive Looks Good
Great Light Action Rod

I use it with a Quantum Tour Elite tpi-b 20, filled with 8 lb sniper and Mono or flouro leaders depending on the lure. Used it this last weekend with a Lucky Craft gunfish 75 and nailed a nice 3 pounder on a top water bite. I use nothing but G. Loomis rods and love the dropshot magnum lite and the Bronzeback rods.
ProsLight, fast, responsive with the strength to get the job done.
ConsHad to file and sand the handle where the cork meets the plastic until it was perfectly smooth, a little hand work makes a production rod feel like a custom!
