Each new International® V rod has a distinctive, lustrous, flawlessly smooth black blank finished with premium quality AFTCO® roller guides and tiptop. In addition, a rich, custom quality look is reflected in the handwound, double-layered, epoxy bounded wrappings and the classy triple-thread diamond wrap applied between fore grip and stripper guide.
Far from just being attractive, these new International® V rods lift and pull fish to the boat, and then some. Penn design engineers started with the best of both performance worlds -- lightness and strength -- in selecting Penn’s P450 Super Glass™ rod blank construction. Next came specific component sizes and placement, like butt, fore grip and rod lengths, all designed to produce maximum leverage when power-lifting with a special elongated fore grip of thick Nytril™ cushioned foam.
At the hands-on end of each new International® V rod is a detachable, machined-aluminum butt with double locking, machined aluminum hoods for secure reel attachment. Two models are also offered in the high leverage, curved-butt handle design: the 80-lb. class 5080B and the 130-lb. class 5130B, designed to optimize fish-battling abilities in a fighting chair.
Ranging in length from 6’ 10” and 12-lb. class duty to 7’ 8” long for 130-lb. class contests, the nine new International® fiberglass rods can go up against virtually every size and spirit of gamefish in the world, from light-tackle sails to grander blue marlin. Of special note is the new Model 5070, a rod designed specifically to balance and match with Penn’s new International® 70VS reel.
