Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder Spinning Reels

Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder Spinning Reels

The Avenger family of spinning reels is heralded for its combination of construction, performance and affordable value. The Avenger ABF Baitfeeder is no different. From walleye to catfish, stripers to rockfish, Okuma's patented baitfeeding system allows for disengagement of the spool and free-running line without opening the bail.

Predators are allowed to pick up a bait and run with little resistance as they commit to eating' and providing for the best possible hookset. With a turn of the handle the spool and drag system engage to set the hook and fight the fish. Avenger ABF Baitfeeders begin at size 20 and continue through size 90.

Great Reel
March 4, 2015
These Baitfeeder Spinning reel is the only reason I changed to a bail type fishing reel. I love to catfish and have been since I was old enough to hold a pole. I used spinning reels when i was younger but was tired of leaving the bail open or having the drag set very lite. All this to keep your pole from being pulled into the lake or river on a hard run. So for years I have been fishing with open faced reels with bait clicks. On my last trip to the south and was fishing on the pier I got a closer look at a Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder reel. I was hooked...I watched run after run and with just a turn of the handle the fight was on. I now have two of the ABF50s and have caught a few on the pier and the reel is very smooth and so far has preformed great. Just an FYI, the baitfeeder is just that a bait feeder and not a bait clicker. I did read several reviews that the clicker was not loud enough. It's not supposed to be and is not advertised as a bait clicker just a bait feeder. Just my 2 cents...Tite Lines...
Pros:
Smooth casting Smooth retrieve Great Baitfeeder
Cons:
The Baitfeeder adjustment could have a + or -

great starting reel!!

so many positive things about this reel. bait running feature which is always great for adjusting your leader length before a cast or, more obviously, live lining bait. i have one ABF 50 (some plugging) and ABF 65 (bait).
Pros:
can't beat the price for what you get. strong enough to pull in decent size fish depending on what size you go with. great starting reel for beginners. 65 model is perfect for throwing bait. 50 model is great for light to moderate lures ( from a saltwater perspective).
Cons:
big jump in size between the 50 and 65 models. the 50 model CAN be put on a 10' rod but thats pushing it. the spool is not big so if you lose line for some reason (snag, snap off etc) then youll be down a decent amount of line. the 65 model is heavy. pair that with an okuma sentara or longitude XL and you have a decent amount of weight to carry around. doable if you sling it over your shoulder, but youll feel it when your hooked up and reeling. handle is a little small for my tastes.

Decent inexpensive bait feeder

This is no match for a shimano baitrunner, but it's not bad for the money. Its not well suited for big fish, though. Freshwater only.

Can't beat for the money
August 22, 2014
I just ordered another reel from TackleDirect, I have a 30, 40 , 2-50's and three 65's The larger ones have done up to 5 years of surf fishing and that does mean they have been in the suds and the sand. Never had a failure and Stripers and Blues hate these reels. Give them a try for the money you can't go wrong.
Pros:
Price, performance
Cons:
none
