great starting reel!!
November 4, 2014
so many positive things about this reel. bait running feature which is always great for adjusting your leader length before a cast or, more obviously, live lining bait. i have one ABF 50 (some plugging) and ABF 65 (bait).
Pros:can't beat the price for what you get. strong enough to pull in decent size fish depending on what size you go with. great starting reel for beginners. 65 model is perfect for throwing bait. 50 model is great for light to moderate lures ( from a saltwater perspective).
Cons:big jump in size between the 50 and 65 models. the 50 model CAN be put on a 10' rod but thats pushing it. the spool is not big so if you lose line for some reason (snag, snap off etc) then youll be down a decent amount of line. the 65 model is heavy. pair that with an okuma sentara or longitude XL and you have a decent amount of weight to carry around. doable if you sling it over your shoulder, but youll feel it when your hooked up and reeling. handle is a little small for my tastes.
