Perfect beginner rod for a bait chucker
December 31, 2016
Bought the 12 ft, 6 to 12 oz casting version to use during drum season and it performed very well. Some people do not like the way it loads, but it seems to work well with me. I had no issuing reaching the areas that I needed for a big NC drum. The first day I took it out, I landed a nice 40" drum (baby in my eyes) and it handled it with no issue. It is also very light which is a good thing to have if you are changing bait non stop.
ProsGreat color scheme (matches my Daiwa Saltist BG30H) Loads 8 oz and spot head with no issue Lightweight Good drum rod
ConsDepending on how you load your rods, this one may not be for you. Cast it first before buying.

Amazing rod had some big fish and this animal brought them in like nothing. Also casts 3-6 oz weights very far. The rod is nice and light I can't say enough good things about this rod. It looks great and is good quality. So far caught some big blues in the 35"+ range and few big stripers with this rod no problem.
ProsLight, strong, looks great, good price!
ConsNone so far

Very nice looking rod. I have paired it with an Akios Sportscast 666 shuttle reel. It will give you a lot of distance to reach the big ones.
ProsGood looking. Can't beat the price for such a quality rod. Great rod to use as a heaver.

I have a penn conflict 8000 would a 12 ft be a good balance?
I would generally suggest a 6000 size Conflict for a 12 foot surf rod, but an 8000 would not be too large, in fact it may even more more appropriate if you are using a heavy line.

I was thinking about buying this rod for bass fishing. My question being will this be a good all round freshwater pole? And will it go good with a shimano sahara 3000 reel?
Normally you would be using shorter rods in the 6ft - 7ft range for freshwater fishing. if your fishing in freshwater areas that require you to cast further than normal this rod would be a good fit.

Would the penn spin fisher 5500 be a good match for the 8 foot rod an if not what would be a good size reel
Yes, the 5500 will balance well with that rod. If you want to go larger, the 6500 is as large as we suggest going.

I am going to buy the new Penn Spinfisher long cast 7500 which of these rods would be a good match or would you recommend something different? I also am buying the Penn Battle 2 3000 or the 4000 which of these would be the best match. The 7500 long cast will be used surf fishing and the Battle 2 will be used pier and boat fishing. Thanks
The 11' (PEN-1376) would be great with the 7500. Go with the Battle2 4000 and the Battalion 8' (PEN-1371) for the pier. For a boat, you will want a slightly shorter rod, around 7'.

Hi there. I bought a 10' penn battalion surf spinning rod from tackledirect. Will a fin-nor offshore 5500 spinning reel be used as a suitable reel for this rod? Thanks for advice. Vic
Yes, it can be used on that rod. It might feel a little small though. If you can, we suggest moving up to the 6000 size reel. It will balance out better.
