Don't Dunk It
September 17, 2014
This reel will serve you well if you can keep it out of the saltwater. I fish the surf in rhode island and it lasted less than two months (about 80 hrs of fishing) before the bearings were toast. Just to clarify, I was mistaken that saltwater reels could be dunked and still remain operational. Unless the reel is sealed the bearings will fail once exposed to saltwater.
I lost only one lure due to premature bail flip. I would pay an additional $50 if Penn made it with ceramic bearings. Penn and other manufacturers need to read the forums and realize there's a huge gap in the market for reels that can be dunked and not seize for less than $700.
Pros: Paired with fireline this reel has subdued many stripers including 6 stripers from 30" - 36" on the battle 3000. Drag is very good.
