A more advanced edition of the Spinfisher series reels. The Spinfisher V Series spinning reels are made with Penn's new Water Tight Design which protects the reel from saltwater making its way into the gearbox or drag system. The Spinfisher V Series reels have many improved features such as the rubber gasket that keeps superline from slipping. Another great feature is the line capacity rings, so you will always know how much line is left during a tough angling fight.

More Features:
  • New thicker heavy duty aluminum bail wire adds strength and durability
  • 5 Shielded stainless steel bearing system
  • Infinite anti-reverse (back up ratchet on 7500-10500 sizes)
  • Friction trip ramp prevents premature bail trip when casting
  • Stainless steel mainshaft and alloy main gear
  • Triple-supported and oversized stainless steel mainshaft on 9500 and 10500 models
  • Enhanced gear ratios on smaller sizes

spinfisher V 6500
June 3, 2016
this is my 3rd spinfisher in the last 3 years. I first bought a 5500, then a 4500, now I have the 6500. They are freakin great reels for the surf, and for catfishing in freshwater. Very smooth and reliable. The drag on the reel are wonderful when horsing in big Drum off the beaches of N.C. (ramp 44). And the Bluefish don't stand a chance. Switching to the Spinfisher V's are one the best moves I made.

This is the second spin fisher v that I have had (also have had the 4500) and they are awesome reels. Very durable and strong. I have the 6500 rigged with 50 lb braid, about 250 yards. For $113.49, grab one, you won't be sorry!

I've used this reel for 2 winters on the Pacific coast of Mexico for surf fishing. This past winter I fished almost every day for 3 months. I've caught many Toro of all sizes up to 30 pounds. I've tossed lures and live bait and fought many a battle with this reel and a Penn Torque 10 ft rod. No problems to date. This reel can handle any of the fish I catch off the beach. Totally recommended.
ProsSmooth drag and retrieve. No problems after many hours of casting.

Great for Surf Fishing
January 20, 2016
I use a size 6500 for surf fishing on long island. This reel is tough, smooth, and affordable. While not fully sealed to keep the saltwater out, it does a fine job at handling splashing and very brief dunks in the water. Just rinse in freshwater after each use and occasionally clean and lube the inside and this reel will last a lifetime. Perfect size for striper and bluefish, feels very balanced on my 10' surf rod. I use #40 braided line with a mono backing, although this is a superline spool so no backing is actually required. Tackledirect shipped extremely fast and i couldn't be happier!
ProsSmooth reel Smooth drag Great Line Capacity Affordable

Super smooth drag. Penn quality. Great looks. I'm glad I got the 6500 vs the 5500. Not mot of a weight difference and quicker line retrieve to release fish.

Spinfisher V 6500
October 15, 2012
I've been fishing this reel almost everynight the last three weeks since I bought it. I spooled it up with 300 yards of 50lb powerpro and paired it to my 12' Torque. Last weekend was the best test yet, caught 4 8-10lb Blues last Saturday, a bunch of cocktail blues last Sunday and three 8-12lb Stripers last Monday. I was casting 6ozs of lead and mullet chunks to the 2/3rds line ring, guessing thats around 100 yards or so. Line flows smoothly and freely off reel, reel is very strong and pulled my fish in very easily. I would feel very confident and comfortable reeling in a 30+lb Striper. Drag was smooth, line lay is very good and no problems with wind knots. I do not dunk my reels so I can not atest to how well the seals work, but when spraying off my reels, water did get under the drag knob even though it was fully tighten down. So far, I am very happy with my purchase and only time will tell about durability.

I'm looking for a good reel for surf casting Montauk without breaking the bank. This reel looks like the ticket. Not sure on which model is best?
This is going to be the best reel for you. What size you should purchase is based on the lengths and weight rating of the rod you are using.
