first the flaws. Oddly there is no "stop" for the lower real seat ring. If you loosen it all the way it literally slides down the real handle. Obviously a manufacturing flaw. Not good for a $500 plus rod!,, also, not the same handle depicted on the TD site. They said I could return it, but I decided to give it a try.
Wow, this is a great rod. This is my first 12 foot rod. I wanted it for distance and a guy at T D suggested I go with this SE model rather than the Vapor Trail. It's rated as 3 to 6 and I believe the rod is most efficient at the upper end of the range. It took me no time to get used to the additional length. At the end of the first day I was hitting 100 yards and I don't consider myself a particularly great caster. I'm in the process of teaching myself the 'off the ground" technique with the hope of hitting 130 yards. If you are a strong caster i am sure you could do this easily with this rod.
The rod loads beautifully and has a perfect curve. recovery seems strong. It outcasts my St. Croix Legend and blows my Loomis IMX ( a rod which is a major disappointment) out of the water. Of course you can't forget they are 11 ft. Rods. The rod is also light as a feather , at I believe 12.9 ounces. No regrets with the purchase. It would be rated 5 stars if not for the defect mentioned above and the lack of a shrink wrapped handle ( it is a basic but comfortable foam type handle).
Pros:great casting rod, feather light, loads beautifully
Cons:mfg flaw, lack of shrink wrapped handle and, of course the price
