Rod is what I expected works well
Pros great price
ConsShipping was not what I expected, Box arrived almost flat form the three boot marks on it . By luck rod inside was not damaged, there was no markings on box to indicate that care should be taken with item I would not recommend having long rods shipped.

Hard to Go Wrong with an Ugly Stik
February 2, 2015
This is my fourth Ugly Stik -- bought it to go for stripers and sturgeon in the California Delta. It seems to be a very nice rod (haven't fished with it yet). I've got it paired with a Shimano Baitrunner 8000. I will reserve the fifth star until a catch my first keeper sturgeon on it.

Really tough rod!
January 24, 2015
Received this item as a birthday present along with a okuma avenger reel… Very tough rod. Used for pier fishing (crab snaring) and it holds up pretty well. holds up well even with 2 dungy crabs on the receiving end! Great Value for the money. Between this and the daiwa beefstick, i think i have 2 rods that should last me a while!

Loved This rod
December 22, 2014
I got this rod for my 12th birthday a few years ago and loved it, great feel, the medium heavy handled days were we caught over 50 big blue fish. Sadly, I got cut off on a wind knot and the second part of the rod went flying into the sea :(. It was a great rod and I plan on buying another one soon.

Best store bought rod for the money

Been using these rods for years. You can't beat them for backbone mixed with sensitivity. They are practically indestructible. I use them for striper and hybrids in the lakes in my area. Also had to return one about four years ago and all I had to do was send it to Shakespere and they sent me a brand new one with no problems. By the way the rod was four years old at the time. I now own about twenty different ugly stik rods.

big gun ugly stik
December 8, 2014
As soon as I opened the box I put on a reel and headed to lake ontario. My first cast was at least 25yds longer than my average with my 12 ft i was using. With practice it became consistently longer. I found the rod much more sensitive to bait activity and when I hit a big laker the added sensitivity made the fight that much more awesome than my stiffer rod. Overall I am quite happy with it.

Awesome Rod!
August 3, 2014
Great Rod! Solid backbone and just what I was looking for. This rod is perfect for throwing plugs in the surf and chunk baiting it where I am. Feels great and with the right reel and line I feel every little nudge on the bottom. I would recommend this rod to all my friends. Ugly Stik made another great product. I paired this rod with the Penn Battle 6000 and braided line.
ProsGreat backbone Sensitive 1 piece and fits in my car!

Great Rod for the Money.
February 26, 2014
I have two of these that myself and wife use to surf fish with and they are great. My wife can handle these 9 foot rods pretty easily and enjoys being able to cast her own lure. These rods can cast amazingly far, my guess would be almost three quarters of a football field with 3oz surf weight and 1oz of cut bait or shrimp. These are tough rods made to last and come with an excellent warranty.
ProsTough Rod. Excellent Warranty. Cast a long ways for their size.
ConsLittle bit on the heavy side.

The rod arrived quickly and undamaged. The feel of the rod is very good. I feel that I got the best bang for the buck with this rod. I attached a Penn Battle 8000 on this stick and it feels great. I spent a little over $200.00 bucks for the set up and I couldn't be happier.

Light Rod With Backbone
July 5, 2013
Rod is another credit to the Shakespeare Ugly Stik line. It is a comfortably light rod with a lot of backbone. Certainly capable of handling most inshore and a lot of offshore species. Paired with a good reel and braid line, it is a formidable fishing combination. This price was also excellent.

I have been fishing Ugly Sticks since they were introduced. Everything from ultra lights to heavy salt water. They always perform and are indestructable. Great rod for the price. Big money "sticks" are sexy but you can count on an Ugly Stick to bring the fish home.

Big Stick
April 30, 2013
I got this for Christmas and just now got to use it. I paired it with a Penn 6000 Battle, and I put a Breakaway cannon on it. I fished with it once so far at Dauphin Island Alabama. I was throwing 4 ouces and a figer mullet on fish finder rig and it flat went 50 yards further than I thought it would. I educated some sea gulls about a 15 ft surf rod. I took it to a lake the other day to practice and was throwing 5 ounces. I put 150 + yards of Pink Ande on the reel and then toped it with 150+ 30# PP Slick 8. I had a little wind from behind but on a couple of casts I could see a lot of Pink Ande showing on the reel. I don't know what the sweet spot is yet.
ProsIt can flat throw a bait. You will have no problem getting to the second bar. Its a spinner so it's not that hard to learn to throw. I plan on using it to shark fish at night. It's a massive long distance rod for less than $100.
ConsIt is really heavy. This is not for the weak or faint of heart. It is a little wippy but that is an Ugly stick. You had better get a Breakaway Cannon or it will cut your finger off. If you have a bad back don't pick it up. I have not tried it yet but it is rated at 12 ounces and I think it would be a little scary. It only breaks down to 2 seven and a half foot sections and the but will not fit in a 4" ID tube.

I'm pairing this with a Daiwa Regal Bite N Run 5000BRI, will be using this for Striped Bass fishing off a boat in Jamaica Bay NY. Will this rod do the job? Do I have to worry about it breaking?
It depends on what type of fishing you are going to be utilizing the rod for.... If you are looking to do bait fishing/bottom fishing I would recommend a rod with a higher lure/ounce rating for if you cast something heavier than three ounces than this rod has a good probability of snapping on you. I, honestly, baiting fishing for bass and blues would use the heavier model that is rated one to six ounces. It would be playing it safe and you would be more comfortable knowing it can handle anything you cast out or anything you would be fighting. Also, the reel would fit the heavier model well, and the line rating is suited for heavier pound test if you wished to go over 25lb. ( http://www.tackledirect.com/shakespeare-bws-1102-70-ugly-stik-bigwater-spinning-rod.html ) But, if you planned on only fishing lures than the medium rated rod will do you just fine.

I'm looking for a 2 piece 7 foot spinning rod for casting lures ranging from 1/2 ounce to 2 ounces in the surf. I'd like the rod to be light with good backbone and have a touch of flexibility at the very tip so it can work topwaters easily. Price range is $75 and under. I have the Star Rods Aerial 1 piece 7 foot jetty surf which I have fallen in love with but am looking for a 2 piece rod similar to it.
Take a look at the Tsunami 7' Surf rod (TSU-0125). It will be closer in action to your Star than the Shakespeare.
