I own three ugly stix and find them to be great rods for the price and catching fish. My VS150 and Quantum Cabo compliment this stick well.

I'm pairing this with a Daiwa Regal Bite N Run 5000BRI, will be using this for Striped Bass fishing off a boat in Jamaica Bay NY. Will this rod do the job? Do I have to worry about it breaking?
It depends on what type of fishing you are going to be utilizing the rod for.... If you are looking to do bait fishing/bottom fishing I would recommend a rod with a higher lure/ounce rating for if you cast something heavier than three ounces than this rod has a good probability of snapping on you. I, honestly, baiting fishing for bass and blues would use the heavier model that is rated one to six ounces. It would be playing it safe and you would be more comfortable knowing it can handle anything you cast out or anything you would be fighting. Also, the reel would fit the heavier model well, and the line rating is suited for heavier pound test if you wished to go over 25lb. I'm looking for a 2 piece 7 foot spinning rod for casting lures ranging from 1/2 ounce to 2 ounces in the surf. I'd like the rod to be light with good backbone and have a touch of flexibility at the very tip so it can work topwaters easily. Price range is $75 and under. I have the Star Rods Aerial 1 piece 7 foot jetty surf which I have fallen in love with but am looking for a 2 piece rod similar to it.
Take a look at the Tsunami 7' Surf rod (TSU-0125). It will be closer in action to your Star than the Shakespeare.
