Ugly Stik Tiger rods are versatile rods that can be used from coast to coast. Tiger rods are at home catching tuna in the Pacific as well as landing monster catfish down south. The famous Ugly Stik construction gives these rods an advantage for fighting trophy-sized fish.

great rod

New to a generation of Southern California inshore fisherman - the return of the anchovy as bait vs large sardine. That said had to find a rod that is capable of pitching a pinhead anchovy (3in maybe) #4 hook, 1/8 or less or no sliding weight). Really tough to do with a baitcaster. Todays spinning reel makes it easy. The BWSL 2200 70 Ugly Stik makes it easier - enough spring in the tip (won't kill the bait) and enough backbone for a 30lb yellowtail on at most 20lb mono/fluro leader line (30 iffy). Have to turn within 100yd or in the rocks. - Braid as leader - out of the question (scares the yellowtail away).
ProsLight - good backbone - sensitive tip. Great price compared to $150 plus typical rod. The return of glass rod, actually better for this time of fishing then carbon, carbon tends to be too stiff

Have hooked up several large Amberjack and King Mackerel and love the feel and strength of the rod. When pulling against a running fish, rod's backbone structure really allows you to put the pressure on a fish. Unlike other spinning rods I have used, that 'backbone' just doesn't seem to be there and your focus is on possibly snapping the rod in two. Not with this rod.
