Best Bang for the Buck !!!
October 24, 2013
We have 3 of these rods in medium heavy action and use them for bank and jetty fishing for chinook and coho salmon on Oregon coast. Two have Penn Battle 4000's and the other has a "Vintage Dam Quick 1401". I've tried 15#, 20# and 30# Super Slick 8 braided line and they all cast great (Don't overfill your spool or you will get wind knots and bird nests). Also, we have used 12# and 15# Moss green PLine mono. We toss 3/4oz to 1 1/4oz spinners and 3/4oz spoons, We have tried all of the lures on bigger and smaller poles and these are our favorites. They just seem to cast as far and have as much backbone as larger poles but without the weight, You can cast all day without fatigue. This rod/reel combo has handled up to 30# chinook with no problem. They are much fun. Don't think there is a better pole for the price. We will try a medium action for trout/steelhead fishing.
Pros:light weight, balances great with reels listed, aluminum oxide guides works great with braided line
