Great all around Surf Reel

I own 3 different sizes of the baitrunner (8,6 and 4K) and love them all. I use the 8k for chunking bait and the 6k when i am not sure if i will be tossing lures or want to sit back and relax with some bait. Some say the spool size might be a bit small but if you use braid in the 25 lb class it fits plenty. Hopefully Shimano never discontinues this amazing reel, i doubt they will.

THE surf bait reel
March 10, 2015
I've been a Baitrunner user since high school, and still have two of the 4500Bs that I use regularly. I'm steadily upgrading my 4500's to the 6000Ds as I like them and the others have been in service for almost 10 years. I've never had a problem mechanically with this reel, and with annual maintenence and washing with fresh water thoroughly after each use, I don't think I will ever have problems. I use this reel with 30 lb Power Pro super slick and it'll catch just about anything in the east coast surf. If you are on the fence about moving to Shimano or you have never used a baitrunner, you need to give this reel a shot. There is nothing like looking over and seeing your rod bent over and hearing the baitrunner screaming!
ProsBaitrunner Feature Smooth Drag Line Capacity

An all around well built and reliable reel

have used this reel for strippers in New England and drum in TampaBay.The bail handels braided line with 0 problems and the bait drag and reel drag are very smooth.I owned a 3500 before I bought the 6000.They are my favorite reels.
Prosthe bail picks up braided line every time with out getting jammed in the side of the roller unlike competetors reels.great reel for live or any bottom bait and is so sensitive it works when a crab is trying to steal your bait....

Do you have a recommendation for a 7 foot rod to go with this 6000D series reel? In the price range of $60 - $100? I just bought the 8000D combo from you with the Silver Hook series rod - TDSBS701MH 7ft TD Custom Rod...(TDA-0263)...Great rod for king mackerel, but a bit heavy for what I will do with the 6000D...I want something just a little bit lighter - I pier fish the gulf coast; snobbling live bait for spanish mackerel; redfish; bluefish and there is always a chance of hooking a king mackerel. Do you have a fast action version of the same rod I bought? or do I need to stick with the same rod or go down a notch to the TDA-0267 ?
The TDA-0267 is a little light. The Tsunami TSTSS-702M Trophy Surf Spinning Rod is heavier and could handle more weight for casting lures or bait.

In terms of a 7 foot boat rod, which rod would go perfectly with the Baitrunner 6000D for big bass and an occasional blue. I will be plugging, and snagging-and-dropping to the bottom for monster Striped Bass. I was thinking about a Shimano Teramar, but I'm not sure.
Teramar would be a great rod for that, as would a Terez or Terez Waxwing.

What size reel do you recommend for inshore saltwater live bait fishing, the 4000D or 6000D. Mainly fishing for sea trout, flounder, and reds. Would also cast lures with same reel? Thanks
Hello Jim. The 4000D would be just perfect for you. You would be able to fish the live bait as well as plugs with the same reel.
