The Shimano Spheros SW Spinning Reels offer more to the angler with the new Shimano SW concept features.
X-Shield: By providing dependable sealing structures and gaskets at necessary points throughout the reel, X-SHIELD is able to block water intrusion. This protection provides high reliability and durability when SPHEROS SW is used in extreme fishing conditions. Shimano CF Gear: To deliver the toughness and performance level required by saltwater anglers, Shimano utilizes their cold forging technology to deliver a gear with incredible structural strength that provides the best protection against abrasion and damage.

Have yet to put this reel (10000) against a good test, so far only 3-4 ft. sharks. Reel is smooth and the drag is serious.

i was able to use this reel on a charter kayak trip. Its a pretty good buy. Strong and durable reel and Shimano really improved it from the last version. Not as smooth as the saragossa though.(much cheaper)

Smoothest reel I've ever used

Bought this reel for a plugging setup for striper fishing this season and I have to say its the smoothest reel I have ever used and hasn't disappointed me when reeling in fish. Great buy I highly recommend investing in this reel.

I was using the 5000 Daiwa Procyon on my 9' Lami SS as a light surf set up for smaller Striped Bass with the occasional keeper until it had to be sent in for service. I have the 5000 Shimano Saragosa SW and really like the reel so I decided to replace the Daiwa with the Spheros even though I know I am not comparing apples to apples. I have used the Spheros a few times and have caught Striped Bass to approx. 34". The reel is nice and smooth, casts well and does a nice job managing the 30lb braid I have spooled on it. I really like this reel. I only wish it was just a little bit lighter.
ProsExcellent value. Nice drag. Good line mgt.
ConsWish it was just a little lighter.

Could you recommend a couple rods to match the spheros SW5000, I like fishing as lite as possible from a boat. Tia Tom Borkowski
the Shimano teerz Spinning rods would be a great match to pair with the Shimnao Spheros to make the combo as light as possible. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

I have an 8 ft ugly stick 20-25lb class rod that I use for surf fishing. I was looking to pair a shimano spheres reel with. I see the difference in weight for the 5000 and 6000 size reel is just a couple of ounces. Is the 6000 reel going to be to big. I like the fact it has better line capacity or should I roll with the 5000. I primarily use this rod for whiting, blues, trout, black drum and reds. I do have a few 9ft heavier rods that I cast out further, and fish the 8 ft rods closer to shore for bait fish and it needs capability to reel in up to 40 inch reds. Thanks.
The Shimano SP6000SW Spheros SW Offshore Spinning Reel would not be to heavy for the 8ft Ugly Stick. The setup would work good for blues, sea trout, small drum and reds.

would the 6000 spool fit if i wanted an extra spool ?
I just went and tried it on. They do have the same body, so the 6000 size spool does fit on the 5000 size reel.

How will this be on the 8' St croix triumph surf rod.
Alon, This would be an excellent size reel for a 8 foot Triumph Surf. It will be a very sturdy combo and easy to throw all day long.
