the ci4 is one of the smoothest and farthest casting reals i own. it is great for twitch baits and crank baits. i matched this up with a star rod fast tapper and its one of the best rod and real i own. Just a great all around product.Ive pulled in some 40 inch reds with no problem with this set up.

this little reel was perfect for my need, I paired it up with a Shimano TVS66MH2 Trevala Butterfly Jigging Spinning Rod, my whole gear is extremely light, yet it can handle big fish with no problem. This little reel is light and strong, I have used in freshwater for bass and saltwater for porgy, fluke, bluefish and stripier. It is very smooth on both drag and retrieving, as long as you are not going offshore, go for it.
ProsLightweight Smooth Powerful drag
ConsA little bit pricey.
What a great lightweight reel

AWESOME LIGHTWEIGHT REEL
December 22, 2013
I can not say enough about this reel. It is very light and packs a punch. I have mine on a 7ft st. Croix premier rod with 20 lb braid. I have caught over 200 striped bass on the reel and it has never disappointed me. It is worth every penny. The drag is silent, when fishing at night my friends always tell me they didn't know i had a fish on until it was splashing at the surface because the drag is that silent and smooth. This year my goal was to catch some albies and bonito on this reel to give the drag a real test and as I expected, kept up with the speed demons and landed 12 in just an hour
ProsExtremely light. Over 20 lbs of drag. Silent . Smooth

Tiny reel with big heart! Very smooth and very popular among my city (South America - Colombia - Cartagena) to fish for big snook and baby tarpon....just spool it with 10lb braid and you're all set.

Do these reels have any of shimanos salt water intrusion features?
No they do not. I would recommend taking a look at the Saragosa or Stradic FK if that is what you are looking for.

I heard it said that C14 is stronger then metal and will last longer. For me to purchase this reel, it must last longer then my Stradic FJ. I could care less about the weight. I don't mind the cost, but it's lasting ability is most paramont to me. What say you? Hmm? Yes?
All I can say is that I have had my Sustain5000 for 3 years, I use it for Blues, Stripers, and Fluke from my kayak. It still looks and feels brand new. I have not heard of anyone having any issues. I know a few charter captains that have Stradic Ci4s and they also have not had issues.
