So far so good
October 2, 2014
I've trashed alot of other wading boots recently. These are holding up so far. All of the features are in this boot that you need for surf fishing rocky coastline. If you're in the surf and sand these are overkill.
Pros:First, they have plenty of ankle support. Second the lacing is sweet, no metal to rust/corrode. No wire bindings to get jammed and the speed lace eyelets lock the tension, so when you lace up you can change hand position without everything loosening. Why don't other manufacturers get this?!
Now I saved traction for last, I have tested these without grip studs (not the simms cleat system which these are designed for). The sole has enough thickness to engage the stud without going through the sole. I have to use a cleat system with the boulders covered in thick seaweed. I have full confidence in the traction of the boots with grip studs. Long term durability remains to be seen.
Cons:A touch on the heavy side. There is no mesh portal to vent water. On the other hand they fit snug so there's little water that fills up. Still Simms needs to add a mesh covered portal to vent water. No one needs to add additional water weight on their walk while transitioning from spots while fishing for hours. Also leaping from rock to rock can be awkward with additional water weight in your boots.
