Savage Gear
Good for jigging off the bottom for stripers, blues, and even sea bass
ProsCatches fish
ConsThe tail bodies can wear out after a few fish so keep a few extras on hand

Great jig for stripers.
Caught a ton of bass on this jig. They can't resist it. Only draw back is the bodies have to be changed out frequently but only because it catches so many fish that it wears them out.

Super effective jig for schoolie stripers!
Caught a ton of small bass on this jig. They can't resist it. Only draw back is the bodies have to be changed out frequently but only because it catches so many fish that it wears them out.

Important piece to the equation
Location + time of day + savage 8" murdered out sandeel = excellent results. The weight in it's entirety helped reach deeper depths, where the cows love to hang out. Outstanding product, highly recommended.
ProsHighly effective
ConsSoft material slides away from barb after several casts too easily.

Great for Stripers
This lure/color is a consistent catcher for me both in this and the next smaller size. One tip for those who don't already know, super glue the body to the head for a longer useful life.
Prosgreat tail action and easy retrieve
Conslongevity(no worse than other soft plastics) and lack of availability of spare tails-heard Savage is going to stop selling them

Sure Bet
Savage has created a great lure with the sandeel. I've successfully used the lighter weights for schoolies stripers in Boston Harbor and redfish and sea trout on the intercostal in Florida. I think he paddle tail action is what gives this lure its success. I haven't caught anything on the larger weights yet, but I believe it's just a matter of time. Matching the body color to the bait may be the important factor.
ProsPaddle tail. The jig itself shaped like a fish head. The bodies are strong and withstand a lot of hits without much damage.
ConsHaven't found any.

Just Plain Effective
I have fished the lighter weights and am happy with the action, available colors, and effectiveness. Solid overall product that matches small baits and does everything you want it to. There are other quality competitors out there and each has its application. In my experience, where the Savage Sand Eels have really shined for me, are the heavy models in the Cape Cod Canal. There are other heavy swim shads and myriad jighead and soft plastic options out there, again each with their time and place, but as far as getting a lure out of a package and immediately being able to handle the current, depths, and size bass of the Canal, these lures have them beat hands-down. Their weight cuts through the depths and current extremely well and gets down into the strike zone easily - the hooks and connections have easily handled bass over 30lbs in 4-5kts current for me, and the color patterns just seem to be what the fish want. Mackerel and white have been outstanding producers for me over 4 seasons of fishing the CCC and Merrimack River, which also poses substantial depth and current challenges. If the currents lighter, the water's shallower or the baits are wider-bodied I may reach for a swim shad- and there are times when I prefer a bucktail w/pork rind, or long eel body on a jig-head but I always have the Savages with me and they will regularly catch fish when those others aren't - I think because they combine in one lure the paddle tail vibrations, the color scheme, and the deep diving attributes of all the others.' If you fish deep, moving water, I strongly recommend you try these lures.
Prosgetting in the strike zone in deep, moving water fish-catching colors and action strong hardware

Good lure.
Bought the green glow to jig up smaller BFT/ YFT on light offshore spin gear at night. They crushed it. Lost it to a cuda. Works great, Could be a bit more variety in weights and colors though. There are options out there to get a similar result.
ProsWell made, good quality.
ConsFor this price package should come with 2 heads and 6 tails.
