The Shimano Game Type J Saltwater Jigging Rods combine Spiral X and Hi Power X blank construction technology. This Spiral X construction provides for reinforced blank strength and torsional rigidity. These Shimano rods are lightweight in design. Hi-power X-construction eliminates blank twist, which means longer casting distances and exceptional casting accuracy. These Shimano rods were designed to fish Shimano butterfly and other vertical drop jigs when targeting tuna, grouper, snapper, and sea bass. These rods feature CI4+ material reel seats thus providing more power and sensitivity.

All around insane

Only had this thing for a couple months now but it is an absolute workhorse. The lightest jigging rod I’ve ever owned yet still gets the job done. When we were sold this rod he talked about how he had caught a 250# shark on it. I was skeptical because of the size but this thing is super powerful and gets the job done for jigging

It is a good rod

It is a good rod, but 2014 models are one generation older JDM technology.
I am kind of disappointed. 2017 model Game Type LJ JDM rod has newer spiral x and hi-power x technology.

Anyway, overall, it is one of the best rods in the US market.
I would still buy Game Type J over Major Craft Major Craft Giant Killing.

I have paired mine with a saragosa 10k loaded with 50lb j braid. This past week I had the chance to take it out to jig up some 35-45lb amberjack and a small Goliath grouper estimated to 60+ lbs. The tip of the rod is super sensitive and responsive. You can feel even the lightest of swipes by lesser species, but the backbone on this thing is where it's really impressive. You can feel the rod work under load throughout the entire blank. Under heavy drag and lots of pressure battling these fish your back will thank you for spending the extra coin. I have terez and trevala rods that are absolutely great for what they are but they are nothing compared to this. Shimano did one hell of a job!

Can I pair this rod with saragosa 20000 n pe6 braid !? It says on the rod 300g max lure weight , how small can I go !!! and still get good action on the jig !?
1 Answer
The 20000 Saragosa balances perfectly, but the 10000 would be more ideal to pair with this rod. These rods were designed to fish with Shimano butterfly jigs, as well as other vertical jigs from 160g (5 1/2 oz's) - 300g (10 1/2 oz's.)

Is the Type J s586 300g too heavy for the average inshore NJ tuna, 100lbs or less. Possible to pair w a Saragossa 10k? Thanks

That rod should pair well with that reel and also handle those fish perfectly.
