Excellent reels
December 20, 2018
Purchased (2) of the 4000 models six months ago. Always been a huge shimano fan and probably own over 40 different reels and models. This one is a real winner and the 4000 & 5000 are the best I have ever used. A little pricey but worth every dollar

Very light and holds up to Saltwater

Typical Shimano smoothness.
Light - much ligher than the SW version and so far holds up fine using it in the surf.

Does not feel as sturdy or beefy as the SW version but does not seem to be an issue.

This is on my main boat rod Gloomis greenwater. The very smooth but yet powerful reel I have laid my hands out with my tight budget.
Proscircle knob is a plus. lightweight and carbon drag.

Great reel
September 18, 2017
I am extremely happy with these reels. Long time user of upper line of 4000 and 5000 size Shimano reels, Stradics, Sustains, and various Stellas. I now have 3 of the new Twin Power XDC5000 reels, all purchased from Tackle Direct. Reels are used for surf fishing, repetitive casting and fast retrievial of predominantly 2 oz. lead lures. Casting distance, light weight, and fast retrieval speed are key. The TP's are near perfect in every way. Been doing this for nearly 20 years and have used a bunch of different reels of many brands in the never ending quest to improve. These by far are the best for my use to date.

As usual, great service from Tackle Direct. Courteous, fast, good inventory, and competitive pricing.

Smooth as glass
July 19, 2017
While I had intended on testing the Twin Power XD 3000XG and the 5000XG in Florida for a week of fishing inshore for Tarpon, Snook and Redfish and offshore for Permit and Cobia and Snapper on the wrecks in and around Naples the weather prevented me from getting out for four straight days. I was able to able to catch some Bluefish and Striper in NJ this Spring and early Summer. The reels are smooth as glass (both cranking and drag). While these reels are pricey, I do plan on using them for a very long time.
ProsSmoothness, Casting. Drag
ConsThe handle knob on the 3000 size TP XD is too small.

I was debating between this reel and the Van Staal VR50. I'm looking for something light, strong, and durable. Any feedback or suggestions?

Between the two i would recommend the Twin Power. It is light durable and strong, all the components your looking for in a reel.
