Put a Cabo 60 spooled with 65# spider wire. I can pull anything from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean off the west coast of Oregon. Plan on using for tuna and halibut this year. Don’t see any problems.

This rod can handle everything you throw at it. It's tough, strong and sensitive. The Terez line of rods are some of the best made. From medium to extra heavy, these rods will help you catch more fish !!!
ProsMade for braid. Light weight. Sensitive. Strong. Tough. Comfortable
ConsA fairly light tip for some situations.

Shimano TZS72MBLK Terez Spinning Rod, Used this rod for everything and it's a great all around boat rod. I've jigged up to 5oz with it, thrown lures with it and bottom fished with it.
ProsGreat all around rod
ConsHeard they dont like being dropped. Hand mine bounce of the rail and hasn't broken yet. I guess time will tell.

Had a chance to go grouper fishing last week and the rod performed flawlessly. I love the light weight and strong backbone. Works especially well for my 11 year old son to be able to use lighter equipment and still be to fight big fish.
ProsLight but strong

want  to order  TZS78XNBLK  but should ask -  will it work good  with  soft  lures  ( savage gear sandels 8 inche for example)?

planing to use it most for halibut with soft lures ,  and with  Saragosa SW8000  , maybe you can advice an other - better option ?

thanks

1 Answer
You won't get a good action on the rod with lighter lures because the rod is more designed for top water popping technique. You would be better off going for something a little bit shorter and lighter.

I want to use the TZS78XHBLK to throw poppers at striped bass, yellowfin tuna, and mahi mahi. However, I am concerned about the absence of a lure rating for this rod. I have some big GT style poppers and stickbaits that weigh in at 5 to 6.5 oz (140g - 175g). Will this overload this rod or effect its casting performance? I heard people say 2-5 oz was good on the heavy version, so was hoping the extra heavy version would be good for the larger baits and closer to a 200g popping rod. Thanks.
1 Answer
Since this rod does not have a lure rating on it I decided to hang a 5oz and 6oz from the rod. The rod had more than enough backbone still to cast these weights. I think that what you are trying to do will work perfect for this rod.
