8 oz.Gamakatsu Jig 90 Heavy Duty 8/0SBTTJCC Crazy Chartreuse$10.49 USD
The Prime Bucktail Jig is not like any other jig on the market. The unique shape of the head and placement of the eyelet help bring this lure to life. With bulging eyes, holographic finish, and blazing color, it puts fish at your mercy. The uniqueness of this bait is that it doesn't fall or hang straight down like other bucktails. It glides through the water, almost swimming along. When jigged, its body stays almost parallel to the bottom maintaining a very natural appearance. Like all SPRO products, Prime Bucktail Jigs are made with durable, super sharp Gamakatsu hooks. Once you fish it, you'll know why SPRO is the shape of things to come.
It's hard to fish the Prime Bucktail wrong. It can be jigged off the bottom for weakfish, fluke, or other saltwater fish. Cast it at schooling fish working it quickly back to the boat for cobia, stripers, snook, or dolphin. Swim it along in freshwater for big bass and walleyes, or troll it for reservoir stripers. It's hard to find somewhere that the Prime Bucktail won't work.

Yup
Great, sharp gama hooks. Compact, heavy head. I also purchased some 3oz ones. Which have very short bucktails, but the 4oz ones I Received are good.

Minor flaw.
Really great hooks, they are gama's. Only problem is th3 bucktail itself. VERY short. Think I may have got a couple defects. They're much shorter than ones I've gotten from different sizes? Might as well have saved money and just got regular jig heads.

Sleek profile
Not as bulky as other bucktails, which is good in fast/heavy current. However, it's easy to add "bulk" depending on what trailer you use.

If I had to count on one lure . . .
I've caught a LOAD of fish on the white 1/4 Spro jig. This is the 3/8 oz. version that offers the same effectiveness, but also longer casts and deeper jigging. I've used this lure to catch just about everything that swims in central and south Fla. saltwater. If I had to rely on one lure, this would clearly be the one.
ProsCatches ALL species of Fla gamefish. Can be worked in any environment. Needle-sharp hooks don't miss many hook-ups.
ConsGets beaten up pretty quickly (after you've caught a lot of fish on it)

Secret weapon
For a simple-looking lure, these things catch a LOT of fish. Most of my fishing buddies have seen what my "The fish can't say no to the white Spro" means. I've fished these all over central and south Florida, and it beats virtually any other lure (and live bait) in side-by-side fishing. Being able to vary the retrieve makes it even more effective.
ProsEffective in virtually any environment - flats, grassbeds, beach, reefs. Needle-sharp hooks.
ConsGets shredded pretty easily by toothy fish (is that a bad thing?)

Puts Fish in the Boat
A lot of people are afraid to go big with bucktails when fluking but at times i need 6 ounces and these do the trick! Great hook size that accommodates the large gulp.

Only bucktails i use
There are a lot of choices when choosing bucktails but i find the Spro's to be priced well and they hold up well for me. I make sure to wash them down after using them with freshwater and use them mainly for fluke fishing

Great Bucktail
I really like the fact these come in sizes up to 6 ounces, makes it versatile for fishing inshore for fluke and then I can use the heavier jigs to go over the wrecks. Chartreuse is the color of the year. Seems like pretty much anything will attack, except weakfish who prefer pink for some reason. Good choice of bucktail.

Spro makes some of the better bucktails on the market. They come with super sharp Gamo hooks. Large variety of sizes and colors. For a commercially made bucktail the hair and head hold up very well.
