The Van Staal X-Series Reels are based on the same foundation that made Van Staal legendary for power and durability.  A completely sealed and waterproof reel machined out of aeronautics grade 6061-T6 aluminum, with a solid titanium shaft, hardened stainless steel main gear and pinion, and patented waterproof sealed drag.  The Van Staal VS and VSB Reels are designed for a lifetime of fishing.  The New X-Series reels now have the X-Wrap oscillation system that lays the line completely flat, designed to cast further and allow for greater drag pressures when using braided line.  The drag system has also been improved allowing for greater drag range.

  • Fully-machined and sealed waterproof aluminum body
  • Solid, nickel-titanium manual bail
  • Sealed waterproof drag system
  • MicroClick drag tuning accuracy
  • Heavy-duty stainless steel spiral-bevel main gear
  • Titanium-nitride treated center shaft
  • Titanium-nitride line roller

JUNK
Had this reel used it about 6 times in about 4 months, caught some fish, loved it. The last time I used it, roughly 6 months after purchase, I was fighting a 10 lb redfish and the stainless bolt that holds the knob on snapped. Now, I’ve been waiting over 2 months for a “backordered” bolt!!! Chinese JUNK!! Idk how a company that sells $1000 reels has such shitty customer service! Never buying Van Staal again! Got myself a new 13 oz black shiny sinker for Heavin’ in Hatty!!!
ProsGood looking Can get dunked (thats about it)
ConsFell apart in under 6 months Warranty sucks Customer service sucks Have to send it back once a year $100 + Gets stiff in the winter

Proud to own this reel
It is so awesome to be surf fishing and see people's face as I get hit wave after wave. I live in South Texas and surf fish for blacktip sharks. Yes, it does Great. I feel invincible with this reel. Plus I just got in my new vr150, it is also awesome. Van Staal has made my life a better place.
ProsAwesome. ..period! !!!
ConsThere is none. But someday I dream of a Van Staal surf rod worthy of the name. How awesome would that be!

Great Saltwater Reel
I ordered this reel for use in saltwater and it is exactly what I needed. I have had trouble with braided line pulling under other layers on spinning reels, when fighting big fish. The loading pattern on this reel avoids that entirely and makes casting long distance a breeze. Great reel!
ProsSolid construction and very well engineered.
ConsIt's big and heavy.

Fish with confidence
This reel is tough as nails. The quality is great, the X-line lay is perfect. I used this reel to cast all kind of lures with no problem. And of course, I don't have to take care of it as I do with my others top-of -the-line reels.

Simply the best
The new Van Staal VSX series is completely bulletproof. I've been fishing it nonstop for a year and it's great. The bailless system takes a while to learn, but once learned, it's a great way to fish. The reel is entirely water proof and sand proof, and holds a crazy amount of line. I can't say enough about this reel.
ProsWater/sand proof Bailless Improved drag and oscillation Good casting Made of top notch materials
ConsNot particularly smooth

What is the difference in detail between this VSX and the soon to be released VR? Whats the max drag for both? do both have the same line lay? also I'm referring to both with the bail, no bailess details please.

There are a few differences between the two, I'll list a few and if you have any specific questions you can ask them as well. As far as the drag goes, it is the same for the VSX and the VR. From what I was told the rating is in the low 40's but they did not give us a specific number. I was also told that the line lay would be the same. The reels have two different bodies, and different gears on the inside. The VR is made of a bit lighter of material. Another big difference between the two reels is that the VR you can switch from bailed to bail less if you so choose. The VSX cannot be changed like that. Also the handles are different. If you have any more specific questions give us a call or send us an email to sales@tackledirect.com.

TRICKING TRIGGERFISH
Mon, 23 Jul 2018
In the past decade, Jersey's wrecks and reefs have begun to colonize with summer visitors in the form of gray triggerfish. Previously known as a relative bycatch on the structure piles, triggers are now carpeting inshore wrecks and reefs, sometimes by the hundreds.... Read More
