Works as stated
For years I was skeptical of the whole dehooker trend. I prided myself doing things the old fashioned way with a pair of pliers or just straight up grabbing the hook and twisting it out. Then one day I broke down and bought this thing. After a couple times to get the hang of it I couldn't believe how easy it really is. No more old fashioned way for me and this tool always stays on my boat now. Very pleased!

It took me and my buddies a little while to get used to it but we now love it. Makes unhooking fish a lot easier both for us and the fish. Def a great buy...wish i purchased it sooner.

Harmless live release
Large non slip handle, heavy gauge wire can take a beating. Saves terminal tackle when we accidentally hook up with a large stingray or other unwanted by catch. Great value. Every boat should have one.

Great tool, but....
Absolutely the best fishing tool I've ever owned! I bought one two years ago and used it every weekend since, cleanly and safely de-hooking hundreds of fish, from sail cats, sharks and toothy mackerel to snapper, sea trout and red fish. Every guest on our boat is amazed at how easy and simple it is to use, and it's truly a rare event for us to ever actually touch a fish, whether we're releasing a fish or putting it in the fish box. If it's so great, why only a two star rating? Well, the original de-hooker was recently lost overboard, and since I never plan to go fishing again without one, so I purchased an exact replacement from Tackle Direct through Amazon - this 16" ARC. It was shipped and received within a few days, and we took it with us this past weekend, looking for sea trout, grouper and king mackerel in Tampa Bay. Our first fish was a three pound mackerel so we whipped out the ARC to quickly release him. Just like the hundreds and hundreds off times before with our previous ARC, I grabbed the leader in one hand and slid the de-hooker down to the hook and pulled tight to release the fish. At that moment, the rod of the de-hooker snapped off at the handle and went flying into the sea. Left with only the handle and one mad mackerel, which were both eventually lost overboard during the ensuing fire drill, we couldn't believe what had just happened. I didn't even have anything to return for a replacement. I've just now ordered my third one, and if it lasts as long as my first one, I'll come back and change the rating. It's a great tool and hopefully we just got a rare defective one this time.

can i use this for a 10/0 or 12/0 hook or do i have to spend the extra money for bigger one
Brandon, You can use the 16 ARC dehooker on 12/0 and 10/0 hooks, but you may run the risk of bending the dehooker because of the gauge of wire used on the dehooker, the bigger 12/0 and 10/0 hooks have a little less play in them in terms of how rigid they are when they are also set in a fish's mouth.
