Small but Capable
June 8, 2013
The size of this charcoal-colored reel (IFS 4000 ) was initially shocking, as it appeared too small and light for anything but medium freshwater usage, at best. However, its line capacity, construction, drag, and corrosion resistance all are indicative of a reel ideal for the inshore salt environment. In addition, it is ' made for braid ', easily taking a superline fill without a backing if one so desires. In actual use, its performance is nothing less than fantastic, easily defeating some large fish with its powerful, non-fading drag. After use, a simple rinse in fresh water is all that is required to remove the salt for the exterior and spool for the next day of use.
Due to the above qualities, it is now my ' go to ' reel for jetty and pier fishing in the Raritan Bay and the Florida Keys.
Pros:Weight, construction, drag, and line capacity.
Cons:Lack of easily available and quickly changeable spools.
