Ugly Stik jigging rod
March 30, 2014
Since all of my fishing buddies here in Pensacola use them for jigging, I had used one before and liked it and I had to have one. I find it an excellent rod for all purpose fishing in the gulf. It is strong enough to handle just about any fish I hook. I combined it with a Penn Battle 8000 and 65 lb braided line for a hell-of-a fishing machine.

Light and strong
March 29, 2014
I purchased this item for use with the Penn Squall lever drag reel. What a sweet combination ! Light in weight and capable of handling some really big fish. I didn't hook any big ones this last trip. But those i caught were landed without fuss.
ProsLight weight and strong. Very flexible. Trigger grip for jigging.

Great Rod
February 27, 2014
I have this rod paired up with a Penn Fierce 8000 at the moment to pull monster catfish out of my local lake. I hopefully will get to test it on some giant grouper this summer and I am confident it will do just fine. I will be a switching to a Penn Spinfisher V 10500 for the grouper fishing and will let you know how it handles that venture. So far it is great with the Fierce 8000 and 300yds of 80lb of Power Pro Braid. It is not as heavy as I thought this type of rod would be but it does have a solid backbone to it for catching big fish.
ProsStrong Excellent warranty

Really like this rod
December 28, 2013
This rod performs exceptionally well. It light and has good power. The grips are very comfortable to hold. I did experience a failure with my first rod where the tip broke off fighting a fish (which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). The rod was under warranty and TD replaced the rod no questions asked! I feel that the rod I originally had was defective because the rod I have now has worked perfectly on numerous trips.

paired this with my penn Baja special. great for bottom fishing and yoyo jigging. very strong rod and yet very sensitive. it has a covered alum gimbal, I love the shape of the the foregrip (similar to shimano terez) and a bonus alconite tip top. last but not the least, very light!!! one reason why I paired it with my ever reliable Baja special!

I have a penn fathom 15lw that will be putting on #30 braid for bottom fishing NC grouper/snapper. what would be the best rod? this will also double as a jigging rod as well.
The Shakespeare BWCJL 2200 63 Ugly Stik Tiger Lite Jigging Rod - Casting would be a good rod to pair with the Penn Fathom 15lw for your fishing needs.

I have a couple of Avet LX reels that I would like to use for Jersey striper fishing/trolling and maybe some off-shore jigging/trolling/casting for smaller game fish. I like these rods with the gimbal butts but am unsure of the best length to use for these purposes. I also assume the F style handle is best?
The length of it is really your preference. Any of these lengths would work for what you are trying to do. Maybe keep it 6' and under for jigging. Personally I think the handle is preference as well but the F would be nice for jigging.

I HAVE A TORSA 20 ,LOADED WITH 50" POWER PRO,THAT I WOULD LIKE TO USE FOR GROUPER,AJ AND SNAPPER.I WILL BE USING IT MORE OFTEN WITH BAIT BUT MAY TRY JIGGING SOMETIMES. WHAT IS THE BEST CHOICE,I WILL BE ON A PRIVATE BOAT. I MAY TRY IT HERE IN NEW YORK FOR TILEFISH.
We suggest going with either the Shimano Tallus or Terez rods in the MH to H range. Length is up to you, but 6'6" to 7' will give you the best range of uses.

which one of these rods do you recommend for bottom fishing with a conventional rod using 3oz to 16oz weights??
The SHA-0197 would be your best bet. 3oz-16oz is a very lage weight span to be handled by the same rod. That said, the SHA-0197 will handle the range better than any of the other options.

The "F" style features a tigger grip handle for conventional casting reels. The "G" style handle does not and is designed for spinning. This is shown best in the image provided on the following page.
