Well, since Shakespeare has "screwed the pooch" with the new GX2 Ugly Stiks, making them cheap feeling and completely dropping certain rod models. When you BLEED Ugly Stik. Ya gotta make the switch. So I went ALL Tiger rod for my bottom fishing rods. I prefer this 7' model because of the light tip, but heavy butt section. 40-50 pound fish NO problems, but a 2-3 pounder still FUN.
ProsTHE ACTION, of this model makes for a super versatile rod The Model has a GIMBAL butt The eyes on this model are super tough, tough as the blank.
ConsNewer Tiger rods being changed.....I believe they are adding the hard plastic "slick butts". I do not like that!!! No "hook hanger".....but that might be a good thing since Shakespeare always put the hook hangers in the most annoying spots!

Unbelievable reliability in an Ugly Stik
October 31, 2014
The name is well known, and the products are not bought often enough. When you want quality the buck stops here. I have and use 10 Ugly Stiks. I fish for large fresh water catfish, and also do a lot of salt water fishing also. There are very few products that rival the abilities of the ugly stik, and the ones that do cost a ton more. If you are looking for the best rod for the price look no further!!!

Toughest rod you will ever own
June 28, 2014
I have had the medium action tiger rod rated for 20 - 50 lb line. This rod is a beast! Had a Penn 112h on it. Used it for pier fishing in Florida for 7 years and never disappointed. Many fish and years later and its being used for giant catfish in the Midwest. Perfect combination for them as well.
Prossuper strong guides great live bait tip but with the backbone for most anything that you are after.

Value for money
October 26, 2012
These are the best built rods for the MONEY. Stainless Steel guides won't break unles you run your truck over them. This is great because of the abuse a rod takes during transporting. The sensitive rod tip allows you to set the trap on any fish, the fish often hooks its self and yet the strong backbone it requires to land a large catfish won't let you down.

The big, The bad, and the ugly!
August 15, 2012
Calling this rod ugly, does it no justice. It's actually pretty nice looking. I paired this up with an Abu 6500, and they are a great combo. I fish off a lot of piers and the ugly stick has no problem bringing 10/12 pound blues and stripers over the side. This thing has got backbone!!
ProsBig and strong!!
ConsI wish Shakepeare made a lighter ugly stick in two pieces! Maybe a 8 foot 1/2-4 oz two piece rod.

What is the difference between the two 1 piece 7' mh rods?
Hello Raiyan, The difference is the type of guides that the rod comes with. The model number with A/O has aluminum oxide guide inserts, while the model number without has a solid welded ring guide. The rod with the aluminum oxide guide inserts would be best for braided line.

Do the 7' tiger rods break down for traveling. Thanks Jerry
Some do. To the right of the listed rod length it will indicate "1pc" or "2pc". This indicates whether it is a 1 piece rod or two piece rod.
