The G. Loomis Greenwater Series Saltwater rods are not your normal shallow-water rods - these are high performance spinning and casting rods designed to fish in the skinny water where the fish come to eat. And how often do you find rods that are not only made for a very specific fishery, but also reflect that image in the color of the blank.

G. Loomis Greenwater core models feature G. Loomis' proprietary ''fiber blend technology'' and have Fuji chrome Alconite guides. Three other models offer the ultimate in light weight and sensitivity with G. Loomis' proprietary GLX performance. They feature the light and virtually indestructible Recoil guides.

G. Loomis Greenwater rods may be divided into three groups:
  • ''standard'' Greenwater rods (GWR) for fishing live or cut bait
  • ''popping'' Greenwater rods (GWPR) for bait or small soft plastics
  • ''magnum taper'' Greenwater rods (GWMR) for fishing spoons, soft plastic jerkbaits and jigs

A $7.00 oversize packaging charge applies to this item as it ships in a long heavy duty tube to protect your items. This fee will still apply when discount shipping coupons are used.
G. Loomis Greenwater Series Saltwater Rod GWMR783S
A 6'6'' fast-action spinning rod designed to fish soft plastics and jigs around heavy cover for snook, redfish and small tarpon where tight quarters dictate the need for a shorter rod. It has a very powerful butt-section and medium-heavy tip so it is a great choice for fishing weedless rigs like soft jerkbaits where you need to drive the hook through the plastic and into the fish. A lot like fishing a plastic worm for bass.

Worth the price

I surf fish but purchased this rod to use on the pier. This rod is super-sensitive, even when paired to a spinning reel. On the surf, it performed equally well, on a calm day with only a 2 oz sinker. The only down side to some may be the one-piece construction of this 8€™6€ rod which may be an issue to some. However, the sensitivity offered by this rod outweighs the issue of transporting and/or storing.
ProsSuper sensitive. Light weight.
ConsOne-piece construction makes it cumbersome to transport to a pier.

The GWR901S can effectively throw any lure in your tackle box and tame any inshore or freshwater species. If I was blindfolded and told that I would be taken fishing without knowing where or what I was targeting, I would take this rod. These Mag-Medium Greenwaters can do anything. Awesome craftsmanship as to be expected from G.Loomis.

great rod for Light plastics, crankbaits, and small bucktails
March 31, 2014
I bought this rod ten years ago to toss unweighted 6" sluggos and other light plastics (less than .5 oz) to striped bass from my kayak. It excels at casting light lures in the backbay.
Proscasts light weight lures very well

901S glx
January 4, 2014
Bought a 901S glx from tackle direct. Didn't know what recoil guides were but didn't like them when I saw them and tried them. Too noisy! Purchased a set of Fuji K series guides titanium with sic rings to replace the recoils. When removing the second guide from the top the rod came apart and had a metal rod in it! Used it once and the rod bent where the metal rod was. I was very disappointed. Called gloomis and they replaced it no questions asked! Awesome customer service and by the way the new rod is awesome with the Fuji guides! (:

The Rod of My Dreams
May 30, 2013
I decided to splurge and get the Greenwater GLX by G Loomis. I can't responsibly pay this much for every rod in my collection (although after using this one it has crossed my mind) but I'm glad I have at least one. This rod is an absolute dream. It is light, well made, the guides do not have ceramic to break, and it is also beautiful. The sensitivity is mind blowing. The mag taper tip gives the top foot of the rod a nice whippy action for excellent casting while leaving the rest of the rod length with its required backbone. I paired this stud up with a Stradic 3000 Ci4, also from Tackle Direct. The combination is excellent. Hey, with all the money we spend on boats, gear, preparation, and time on the water, shouldn't you have at least one or two rods that are the best in the business? Get this rod!!
ProsBest rod I've ever held in my hands.
ConsPrice (but its worth it)

Gloomis 901s
December 8, 2012
Best rod I've purchased so far! Accurate and long casts. Using a conquer 5000 reel with 30# fire line braid. Nice balance of fast action and power. Kind of expensive, but worth it if you really like to catch fish.
ProsStyle and color with the fast action and power.
ConsNothing at all.
