Just plain TOUGH!
May 10, 2014
I use these rods for my charter business in Jacksonville Florida, daily! The reason for the striper model, is I started out with them and liked them so much I believe I now own something like 48 of then in various actions.
I got kinda hooked on the white blank. Kind of RETRO, to me. Although I saltwater fish, the guides on the Striper Models fair better in fresh water.
"For the price....." is how 99% of all Ugly Stik reviews start. And that's because it's true. For the price you can't beat them.
-PARABOLIC ACTIONS....if you hate those stiff as a 2X4 super graphite rods as I do. And like a soft moderate action rod that DOESN'T pull a hook out of a Speckled Trouts mouth, when a 12 year old from Middle America is reeling it in, on say my charter boat. Then of course these are your rods.
-EVA Foam handles. Look better and last longer than most cork, when the rods a "daily worker", rather than a "Rod rack queen".
Cons:The Guides on the STRIPER RODS, versus the standard Black Ugly Stik, should be the same. But they are not.
The chrome guides on the Striper rods should be replaced with the black guides on the "standard" Black blank of a regular Ugly Stik.
The black guides last longer........BUT, here's what I do and it makes a huge difference! When I unwrap my rods from the plastic when I get them from T.D.
I immediately SPRAY the guides with a light coat of CLEAR Polyurethane......TWICE!
Because my rods get daily use and hard use. This extends the life of the guides on the Striper rods, by 10!
TRY IT...IT WORKS! For us saltwater guys.
Or if you aren't already "invested" in the white'ness of the Striper Blanks, as I am. Just get the equavilent , standard BLACK colored Ugly Strik.
