Penn Battle III DX Spinning Reels are built tough to withstand whatever the saltwater angler puts these reels through. The Battle III DX reels are more powerful than the previous Battle III spinning reels. Brass main gears are in every size along with an improved HT-100 drag system. Transfer more power through the gears to your big catch on the other end of the line with oversized EVA handle knobs.

  • Instant anti-reverse
  • Aluminum reel spool
  • Full metal body and sideplate
  • CNC Gear Technology with brass main gear
  • HT-100 drag system with wave spring for linear adjustment
  • 6+1 sealed stainless steel ball bearing system
  • Oversized EVA handle knobs
  • Superline spool

great reel
June 5, 2021
I have used this reel 8 times and very satisfied with performance. In one outing the reel fell into surf being covered completely with ocean water and sand. When I cleaned it was surprised to see that it was sealed with no water intrusion. Reel sets line straight with no wind knots. Braided 30# works best. Would buy again!!

Great reel for the price

I have taken this reel out on several kayak trips and it has performed very well. I have it paired with a 7ft St.Croix Premier Medium Fast spooled with 20lb power pro. HT100 drag system is buttery smooth and line lay is perfect without using the included spool shims. This reel has been plenty splashed with saltwater and rinsed off with fresh. No signs of seizing or sticking. Highly recommend this reel. Just avoid dunking it underwater since it’s not completely sealed like a Spinfisher is.
ProsDecently light Looks cool Great line lay Ht 100 drag Did I mention it looks cool 😎
ConsNot completely sealed

Great reel for the price

I bought 2 of these reels and use them for striped bass. In the past I used other brand name reels and they did not hold up. I swap these out for my other Penn Battle reels because they were getting old but they
still are very usable. I only buy Penn now. Got 8 of their reels now.
ProsStrong and very dependable. Good drag system
ConsNot as smooth as some.

a versatile reel !
May 22, 2021
I have used it for Bass, crapie, catfish, I have used it on the river and on the lakes, with various set ups , and different weight set ups, and the reel has done all i have expected it to do. It is well balanced on the 7 foot MH rod I have it on, and light enough to hold and use all day, and strong enough to pull those stubborn cats out of cover in the river. I'm a big fan of PENN reels , I own several, and this new Battle III DX has so far proven itself to be a keeper reel as well. the reel I have is the 3000 size, and it is a good fit for the smaller boats I fish out of .
Proslight weight , and strong , good looks. nice casting, 6.2:1 gear ratio good all around use.
ConsI have not experienced any cons at this time , only had the reel a few months,

March 19, 2021
Absolutely in love with this reel. I chose the 5000 for the extra line capacity and drag, and it’s the perfect size for my applications. Will use for smaller tuna, bluefish, stripers, albies, and mahi.

Is this reel smooth under pressure? My first penn reel was not and I was wondering if all penn reels were like that.
1 Answer
This is a very solid well designed reel, while i have not personally fished it so i cannot say with absolute certainty, i would assume that this reel is very smooth under pressure with the brass gears and full metal construction.

What was your previous Penn reel you were having issues with?

What is the difference in the DX models over the regular Battle III model?
1 Answer
The biggest difference is that Brass main gears are in every size of the Penn Battle III DX as opposed to the Battle III which only has the brass gearing in the 6k-10k models. The stronger gearing makes for a more robust and powerful reel.
