Absolutely terrible company for saltwater reels!
December 3, 2018
Had mine for a year and so did a friend (bought at the same time). Within the first month had a grinding in the ball bearings. I don't do any beach fishing at all so i assumed that i got salt inside of it and cleaned it to no avail. A week later my friend's reel started doing the same. Now both of these reels were thoroughly cleaned after each use. Luckily another friend of ours knew a Daiwa rep., and we got all of the internals replace for free. Upon receiving it the worked great.....for about a month again..... I went as far as to replace the "sealed" ball bearings inside with ceramic ones i bought online, which did help, but has not totally absolved the issue with their crappy bearings grinding and locking up.
ConsShould not have to replace bearings after only a couple of uses with proper maintenance being done each time

Nice reel but...

I bought two of these reals 3 years ago for bass fishing. They have performed well with one exception; the bail cannot be in a position open for casting beyond a certain point or it will close during the cast. This has annoyed me to the point of replacing the reels. Other than that the reels are fine, but I would not recommend them.
ConsBail closing during casting is an issue

20 years old and still works like band new worth every penny !!!!

I've owned 3 - 1600's and 1- 1300 SS reels for over 20 years... PS getting another 1600 to add to my collection this spring! and it will only cost $5 more than what I payed for 20 + years ago....
Other than a few bails breaking DO TO Excessive use, these reels are like a Sherman Tank (power and silence)

I average 80 + on the water and these reels stand up day after day
My biggest bass was a 7.13 lbs and the small 1300 handled it with easy and super smooth drag control!!!

Last season (2017) I pulled dozens of 3- 6 lbs bass of the weeds and these reels work like new even after 20+ years

I rarely come by product that lasts and works well after a few years... So 4 reels over 20 + years old and thousands of bass and they still work like they where brand new !!!!

Buy these reels, worth every penny and then some!
ProsSmooth drag Casting Dependable Easily reparable Value to cost
Consreally can't think of any other than I would like a larger handle and T shaped hand nob, I have big hands

Have used this reel only a few times so far so good very smooth rel back and drag hasn't had a problem with a 4 or 5 lb bass I have put in the boat. I use it mostly for finesse baits but would not hesitate to pull a 1/4 or 1/2 spinner bait with it all in all good purchase good reel and a fair price.

Tournament SS reels are solid
May 16, 2014
I own 4 of the 1300 and one 1600 in the Tournament SS line. Exceptionally smooth, reliable reel that keeps on going and going. Casts further than any other reel I've used. Best, most consistent drag for the cash available. Minimal maintenance needed - just spray clean after use in salt and lube once/year. The best reels I used for steelhead fishing or inshore salt. Casts lighter baits/lures much, much farther than other spools. I will be buying more. Only criticism is the difficulty in locating spare spools, but they are available.
