Great Gear
I took one of St. Croix's 6'6" - 4 piece travel rods to Belize last year. Landed dozens and dozens of fish - of 11 speices - just casting lures from shore - including tarpon and snook. I was very very satisfied with the product. No other rod company makes anything comparable - let alone at this great price. NO EXCUSES for anyone not to have your gear with you anywhere in the world. Just purchased the 9 foot version to fish the heavy surf on the Pacific side of Central America this winter.

Nice 9' bucktail rod
It also does a good job with tossing smaller poppers and stick baits in the surf as well. I use it for both stripers in Monterey Bay, and chasing rooster fish in Baja.

Very convenient
This is a very convenient way to carry a surf pole in your car or truck without taking any room. Quality and performance are standard with StCroix and it shows. Highly recommend this portable surf rod.

No complaints
Perfect for taking with me when I travel. Fits in a carry on bag without a problem and has plenty of backbone. It's an all around great Rod and I would buy another.

Perfect travel surf rod
Haven't stop using this rod, took it on a trip to the Florida keys to do some shore based fishing. Hooked a few tarpon and the rod performed well! Enough backbone to fight the fish and a nice tip to finesse smaller presentations. I'm so pleased with this setup I'm currently fishing for striped bass back in New England with it.
ProsWell built
ConsCan be difficult to take apart even after using ferrule wax

Very Capable Travel Rod
This travel rod gives some surf fisherman the convenience and opportunities they need to go at a moment's notice. Rather than leaving long 5-6ft 2 piece rods in your trunk or in the backseat in plain view of passer-by's, you have a very durable and sturdy rod tube and a 4-piece rod from a very reputable manufacturer. It is part of the Triumph line and is a great rod for the money and convenience. I leave it in my car always with a few lures and a reel and I'm ready to go anytime I want. Lunch time during work or quick after work casting or even before work. Just leave it in the car and go, no need to worry about the rod rolling around because it is inside the case. This rod goes with me from Plum Island to the Canal and serves as my backup rod as well.
ProsIt's a St. Croix Rod! Sturdy Travel Case Convenience and peace of mind
ConsIt's not a 4-piece Legend Surf.

I liked this rod more than the ten foot Triumph travel rod
The proportions on the 9 foot rod are more to my liking. The butt on the ten footer is just a bit too long for me (I'm six feet tall and it was still a bit long). The nine footer can still throw a nice amount of weight, and the workmanship was very good. The rod is expensive at 200 dollars, but it enables me to fish when I travel, so I'm always a threat near any ocean!! The case is very good, but the zipper pull was broken off, making the zipper harder to pull. Overall, a worthwhile purchase. Curious about the new Legend travel rods also, but they are not really surf rods like the Triumphs.
ProsVersatility. Craftsmanship. Nice uniform action. The case is nice.
ConsZipper pull on the case was broken.

4 pc. 10' travel rod
I bought this high quality rod to be able to take it on the airplane instead of having it thrown around like a javelin by the baggage handlers. I surf fished in Cabo for a week. It's a well made rod! Great action, long casts. It comes with it's own carrying case which is really good, because I was able to take it onboard when I left the Pacific NW, but at the San Jose Del Cabo airport on the return flight it could be used as a weapon. :( ?? The case protected the rod from damage. Haven't found out what the baggage handler's longest throw was yet.

Roosterfish Rod of Choice in Zihuatanejo
The TSRS100M4 is fast becoming the rod of choice for many of the best Roosterfish Captain/Guides that I know in the Zihuatanejo, MX area. The action of the rod lends itself well to the tossing of the Roberts Ranger in the 2.5-3 oz configuration, and the GT Ice Cream Skinny in the 3 oz just seems to fly itself towards the beach. Travels well, fits in the overhead of even the commuter jets like the Embraer flown by United Express. The travel tube is well constructed, and about as heavy duty as you are likely to find out there.
ProsSt Croix's Customer Service!! These guys can't be beat. I had a request from a guide in Zihuatanejo,mx four days before my trip down for a replacement tip. Seems client had run the tip into the prop fighting a big Rooster, and the guide was bummed that he was without his favorite rod. One call to St Croix and they drop shipped the replacement tip overnight so that I had it with me on the plane. Big Discount on that fishing trip!!
ConsCan't think of a one.

The fourth piece of my TSRS100M4 brok in two while throwing the line. I would like to purchase the piece only. Is it possible?

Your best bet is to contact St.Croix at (800) 826-7042 as we don't carry any replacement parts.

Would this be OK to pair with a Penn Slammer 3 HS? If not, do you have another suggestion for a travel rod to pair with that reel?
1 Answers
The Okuma Nomad Surf 10' MH would be the best travel rod for the Slammmer 6500 HS model.

I'm in need of a travel rod. The two I have noticed are the Okuma Nomad 10'MH and the St. Croix TSRS100M4. I will need it to cast a 3oz weight and a light bait 90% of the time. The other 10% would be light plugs and spoons. Any thoughts on which way to go? Any other suggestions? I only get the chance to surf fish a couple of times a year, at best and that is at Tybee Island...flat and calm.

The Okuma NTS-S-1004MH Nomad Travel Surf Rod - 10 ft. would be a good fit for casting heavier weights with bait a majority of the time.

Anyone have suggestions for a reel to pair with St. Croix's 10 Foot Travel Surf Rod? Thanks

A great reel to pair with it would be the Shimano Ultegra Ci45500. It is extremely light and casts a mile.
