Having difficulties finding the perfect combo to outfit your new boat or to update your old gear before your next kingfish trip? TackleDirect has taken all of the guess work out of matching the industry's best reels along with the brand new series of Platinum Hook rods by TackleDirect. The TackleDirect Platinum Hook TDPS703050SIN / Shimano TOR30HGA King Mackerel Combo is an ideal heavy king mackerel setup with a soft tip section that will reduce pulled hooks, with plenty of backbone to handle true 50lb+ smokers. The Shimano 30 Torium offers plenty of line capacity when using 30lb monofilament for those long and agressive initial runs, while the star drag is ultra smooth and prevents mistakenly bumping the drag into free spool, which can happen at the absolute wrong time with lever drag reels in this application. If you are looking to upgrade your kingfish gear, the TackleDirect Platinum Hook Torium 30 combo is a tournament quality setup that will give you an edge over smoker kings whether you are fishing in the Carolinas, Florida, or the Gulf of Mexico.

Would this combo also handle Tuna in the 40 to 60lb class?
1 Answer
Yes this rod can handle a tuna of that size. Kingfish are known to grow pretty large, comparable in size to the tuna you would also want to target so this should hold up well.
