It's a Van Staal, of course it's great!
I haven't got to put it to use yet but it is light weight and feels strong as hell. I have two paired with VM275 I plan on using for shark fishing from boat.

Van Staal Made a Great Rod
I was on the edge of pairing my large saltwater spinning reel with this rod or a custom. After much review and reading, I decided to try a Van Staal rod. VS's reels are tried and tested while their rods are not nearly as publicized. I will say this much, I am not disappointed. The rod has a lot of strength and fits a large reel very well. It also allows for good castability aside from the jigging aspect.

Tough Rod, Great boat rod with all the backbone you'll need.
ProsWell constructed, light.

Great Parabolic Rod
This rod has a great parabolic action that really absorbs the shock of big hard fighting fish like amberjack, cubera snapper, or tuna. To get a rod with this nice of action and construction you usually need to spend $400-$500.
ProsAction, size, construction, fish fighting style.
ConsHarder to get snags out, but this is the case for most parabolic rods. Warranty is only for 1 year.

This rod is light (about 11 oz) and has a pretty strong back bone. Rod action is too stiff for lighter lures, good for fishing lures from 5 to 9 oz. In hockey terms, this rod is just like a tough, reliable 3rd line centre; doesn't cost you a whole lot, nothing fancy but can get the job done if used within its' limitations.
ProsFair value as it was bought at a discount from TackleDirect. Light weight, very comfortable for speed jigging.
ConsVery poor materials for the handles, must be used with caution to avoid dent and tear. Overall quality of the rod is not worth the regular MSRP.

Great strong rod
This rod came with our reel as a promotion but turns out its a great stiff rod for jigging up the big ones. I don't seem to get as tired using it as I did my last and it's very comfortable to hold. Very well built and I would buy it for the next reel with purchase.

Bought to speed jig and possibly use as a jetty rod. Works well when vertical with heavier jigs. Lose some touch with anything under 4 oz. Can lean into a fish and the rod stays very stiff through the middle. Guides are very well constructed with plenty of gloss epoxy. Good looking rod but bummed it was made in China. I do not like the handle material, dents and tears very easily. I got the rod on sale and I think I got a good value. "Limited" Warranty is only 1 year.
ProsStiff heavy action through middle with fast action top 1/3. Great with heavy braid Strong reel seat
ConsMade in China Cheap handle material Butt end cap not fastened 1 year Warranty

I bought a VJS56-270 spinning jig rod from you in Feb. 2013. The line rating shown on the rod and on your website is 60-100 lb, however, Van Staal's website shows a line rating of 30-50 lb only. Why is there such a big discrepancy? Which rating is correct? Please note that the discrepancy in line rating also exist in other models such as VJS58-325.
