The Shorty resembles baitfish with thick bodies that are heavier than conventional spoons for improved casting or deep jigging. Great for freshwater or saltwater species, this lure has a hammered finish which creates a very strong appeal to fish.

These lures have 2 features which make them more efficient than other lures of the same genre. They mimic schooling shad very closely and the other feature is due to their makeup, they can be cast into moderate to heavier wind conditions much easier than a lighter weight lure.

I've had this lure for about as long as I can remember, but although it has good action and can cast far. I have never had great luck with this lure and think there are better spoons on the market.
ProsClassic Good terminal
ConsFalling behind with new technology and newer lures

Best ever spoon

I have fished as a professional Bass fisherman on the west coast lakes . Lake Shasta lake Oroville Clear Lake and the Calif Delta Lake Mead Havasu Don Pedro and Folsom and many more. Did this full time for over 15 years. To the fella that has never caught a Bass on the Hopkins spoon. Some how you missed the class on this one bait. If I could only have one bait to fish for the rest of my life ,it would be a 1 oz Hopkins Shorty. Brass in off color Nickel in clear water. I have won 14 Bass boats and so many top 5 finishes I could not begin to count them. Including Bass Masters Red mans, Western Outdoors tournaments and West Coast Bass events Anglers choice and so on. The Hopkins spoon has taught me so much . Many times on Lake Shasta I was able to prove to sports writers that I could catch over 100 fish per day on these Hopkins spoons. I use to buy many other brands and try to out fish the Hopkins . Even on a few Angler West TV shows. Nothing works better than a Hopkins, Shorty especially the 3/4 and 1 oz. you can surf them 10 ft under a flat shaded dock ,Break dance them on the bottom where the hooks never leave the bottom for huge sac's of spots smallies and Blacks .Best ever is fishing the 1 oz brass in heavy tree's to take tanks out of the tree's. True story and I have the proof on line to back it up. So if you struggle to catch fish on a Hopkins spoon call me , Russ Meyer I'll teach ya.
ProsBest ever

Never caught a single fish on these and I have fished a lot of spoons and jigs over my time. I've trolled these. I've jigged them. I've even casted them into bluefish blitzes with no avail. My suggestion is to get another type of metal. You will be happier that way.

I plan to use this lure for Mackeral fishing in Nova Scotia this fall. A few casts into the swimming pool showed great action.
