Avet Single Speed Reels
Avet single speed reels include industry leading features unlike any other reel on the market. Featuring an adjustable strike pre-set lever drag system, precision machined 6061-T6 aluminum and stainless steel components, 8 rubber sealed stainless steel ball bearings, stainless steel gears and Avet's smooth, powerful Avedrag dry drag system. Avet single speed reels are at the peak of quality and performance. All Avet single speed reels are available with or without their M.C. Cast control system. (except HXW)

Avet 2-Speed Reels
Avet 2-speed reels include all of the quality features of our single speed reels, with 2-speeds. The simple, yet reliable gear shift mechanism built into the 2-speed models is so easy to operate that it becomes second nature almost immediately. The push button located at the center of the handle arm permits shifting between the high and low gears without your hand ever leaving the handle knob, and can be shifted with or without pressure, so you can shift while cranking, or when a fish is running. All Avet 2-speed lever drag casting reels (SX-HX) are available with or without their M.C. Cast control system.

Avet M.C. Cast Anti-Backlash / Cast Control
Avet's revolutionary M.C. Cast (Magic Cast) adjustable magnetic anti-backlash cast control system is available as an option on all of their single and 2-speed casting reels, SX through HX. The M.C. Cast control system incorporates Avet's Patented Adjustable Intensity Polar Amplification Technology to create the most efficient and easy to use cast control system for a conventional style reel. From the lightest bait to heavy lures, the M.C. Cast Control System is simple to use, even if you have never before cast a conventional style reel. Simply place your thumb on the spool to cast, swing, remove your thumb from the spool and let it fly! You will only need to thumb the spool when the lure hits the water.

Avet Raptor Series Reels
Avet Raptor Series Reels are the cutting edge in compact large game reels. These reels are consistently landing shockingly large fish in relation to their compact size. Designed for use with the ultra thin, super strong superbraid lines available today, it's now possible to target large game species with a reel half of the size and weight compared to a reel traditionally designed for similar monofilament line and drag capacities. And the Raptor has the drag and cranking power to back it up.

The Avet Raptor Series comes standard with Avet's innovative 2-speed gears and a ratcheting drag lever with a positive stop strike button to prevent accidental advancement past strike. Featuring Avet's patented DUAL DIRECT DRIVE Full Surface Caliper Brake System, Raptor models put out nearly twice the drag pressure of the original Avets! There's a Raptor model that will stop any fish in the ocean, yet small and light enough to cast. If you find a fish too big for a Raptor, you probably wouldn't want it near your boat! The Raptor Series reels are the same sizes as the original Avet reels, with enhanced line capacities, and each are engineered and built to fish several line classes heavier than the original Avet Reels.

Quality at an Excellent price

Fourth AVET have owned and as usual it came out of the box in perfect condition. Handle is very comfortable and overall functionality is smooth. Feature of this reel is the magnetic control setting which helps to prevent those dreaded back lashes and time wasted fighting with unsnarling the mess.

Versatile and Robust

This reel comes with awesome anodizing in whatever color you order the black is very nice. This reel fits 500 yards of 65lb PowerPro very nicely. The lever drag is not super precise but it is a cheaper reel than the version with the drag plate so it is an even trade off. For the size of the reel the drag is fine.
Pros
  • Good capacity, attractive, decent drag
Cons
  • Mushy drag settings

Avet MXL 5.8 reel
December 12, 2021
The Avet MXL 5.8 single speed is an excellent reel for inshore fishing in South Florida. I run these reels on a 12-20 or 15-30 Connely rod. For top line fishing for kings, Mackerel, they are perfect. We also use them for inshore reef fishing, Yellow Tail Snapper, small grouper, sheepshead, Mutton etc. Great overall reel, light weight in your hand, plenty of drag and smooth uptake.
Pros
  • Light weight, durability, good drag for its size.
Cons
  • Single speed if you need a faster uptake.

Cast like a dream
December 9, 2021
Took this reel right after wind it with 500 yards of 40lb braid and 100plus of 30lbs mono top shot. After adjusting the magnet to half way this baby cast 100 yard with just a little loose line when no using my thumb to cero when I stop it with it. I use a Daiwa 10 ft Emcast with 4 ounce weight.

So good I just bought my 2nd after 6 years
September 20, 2020
Just received the second MXJ5.8:1 that I have purchased. This one is for my wife. I have fished the first reel for six years landing hundreds of rockfish, lingcod, and albacore tuna. The fit, finish, and quality materials used in this reel are outstanding and the reel looks and operates as well today as the day I purchased it. The 5.8:1 gear ratio combined with the length of the handle gives it a pretty speedy retrieve but still has plenty of power to fight fish to 40 lbs. with confidence. It's made in America and most importantly, my wife thinks it's pretty! ( She's pretty too and also catches lots of fish)!!

What's the difference with and without MC?

The "MC" is Avets magnetic braking system. It slows down the spool when casting to prevent backlash

can this reel be used fro deep water bottom fishing ? heading to Eastmans in New Hampshire in August for whiting, ling, cod and whatever else we can catr=ch
1 Answer
Yes, the Avet MXL would be a great option for what you are describing. The JX/LX, which is one step up would also work out well depending on the rod you plan on pairing this up with.

Good reel for giant carp 30-45lbs? Also is this a good reel for huge flathead? 50-60lbs?
1 Answer
It sounds like this reel will be sufficient for your applications. Keep in mind that the max drag on the Avet MX is 9lbs. at strike and 14lbs. at full. If you feel you will need a higher max drag then you might want to consider an Avet MXL G2 or an MXL Raptor.

Should I go with the mx or lx? I plan to use it trolling for stripped bass using parachute rigs umbrella rigs and stretches. I also might get into some small blue fin trolling inshore. I plan to pair it with the bill fisher 5'9" 20-40 rod.
1 Answer
If you were just doing striper trolling I would recommend the MX, Considering that you want to do smaller bluefin I would consider looking into the LX Raptor for the extra drag and line capacity.
