2500BG for Inshore
Used primarily for inshore/flats fishing in Florida and works really well. Smooth drag and casts very far. It's been dropped underwater, in mud and only been rinsed after and is holding up great.
ProsVery smooth and solid, feels like a much more expensive reel.

Smooth as silk
bought the 8000 and matched it wit an Ocean Master 12 ft heavy strictly for surf casting on the gulf of Mexico Anna Maria to Lido Beach...amazing distance and smoothness ..400 yards of 80 pound power pro...catching blacktips, sailcats, bonnetheads,houndfish..and sand problem with this reel...just keep on top of it is not waterproof ...also have a 6500 model and a 5000 model ..
Prossmooth reliable and strong..
Consneeds periodic maintenance...

Value for Money
Overall good quality reel. Shipping was quick too. Only draw back would be the weight, a little on the heavy side.
But good gear none the less

The Best Reel I've Ever Owned
I've been using a Daiwa Samurai as my main Freshwater reel for over 15 years now, so when I went surf fishing in Costa Rica, I turned to Daiwa again. This reel was well-rated and highly praised, so I thought, "why not?"
By far the best reel I've ever owned; its smooth as silk, looks wonderful, feels wonderful and the drag is super smooth, with no issues. Its a 5000 with 65 pound Sufix 832 braid and paired with my rod, it can cast around 100 yards or so (perhaps even farther; need to better my technique!).
The retrieve, as mentioned, is super smooth and it isn't that tiring to reel in, which I thought it would be at that size.
ProsGreat line capacity, smooth.

Great Reel at an Amazing Price
This is a great reel. I have caught many fish with this reel. I have the 8000 size and have it spooled with 20 pound monofilament. It is a great value. It has a lot of drag and line capacity, at a very light weight. It is also very smooth.
ProsGreat Price

Best $100 reel on the market
Awesome smooth reel that holds up to saltwater fairly well despite it being not sealed. Here in FL I witnessed a guy bring in an almost 6 foot Blacktip shark off the rocks with a popper and he was using a 4000 size BG! I couldn’t believe that little reel did it though it took almost 35 min. Almost spooled him but these reels are workhorses from what Ive seen and experienced.
ProsSuper smooth and still smooth after a year. Very easy to take apart and clean. Holds up well to saltwater for a nonsealed reel. Smooth powerful drag and big gears.
ConsSizing is larger than most reels of the same size. T handle knob is riveted on instead of screw.

Incredibly smooth for a great price.
Ive been transitioning my spinning reels over to BGs over the last couple of years. I was using a much more expensive reel from another manufacturer, these are less than half the price and are better reels. For the price, I dont think these can be beat.

Super happy with this series of reel!
Surprisingly smooth and durable! Great drag sensitivity as well...just a solid good looking reel that will last a long time if you just take care to service it as you should...
ProsSmooth! Tough! Durable
ConsWish it had an aluminum ball type handle...after a lot of retrieving the handle kinda rubs my fingers raw...

How well will the Diawa BG 8000 handle 40lb mono for dolphin trolling? Would 30lb mono be a better choice? Or, will 40lb give a slightly stronger option when pulling in a dolphin through some weedline weed?
1 Answers
40lb would be the stronger choice 30 pound would give you more line. I would use the 40lb for a stronger line overall.

considering this to the saragosa for offshore pitching baits to mahi-mahi and dropping for snapper /grouper. Probably match with terez jigging rod. What say you?????
1 Answers
The Saragosa is a much higher quality reel that will withstand heavy offshore use on big fish and heavy drags for many seasons. The BG is sufficient for your application and is more affordable, but I would not expect the same amount of reliability and durability that you would get with the Saragosa.
