Great Reel for the Cape Cod Canal!
damn good reel for the price! the 5000 series is perfect for the canal. plenty of line capacity. stealthy body design adds to the flair a bit. The high speed retrieve is just what you need to combat the fast moving current the canal is known for, especially when jigging 5 oz lead heads in deep water with a 6knot current. gave it 4 stars only because I prefer bail-less spinning reels

Good, Solid Reel
I bought one of these after using them on a charter in Key West, FL. The guide used these reels for everything from bottom fishing to live bait fishing. They did not disappoint so I bought one for stripers, fluke, bluefish, false albacore etc. that are native to my home waters. Dependable drag and a well built reel.

good but cheap handle knob and handle cap
$209.95 reel.... it may be good to buy...
But, please, handle knob and handle cap have to be upgraded!!!!!!!!
Daiwa FUEGO4000H had EVA round handle!
Can you use that knob, Daiwa?
you are making PENN Slammer III look good and winner!

So, I upgraded the knob, it function better, looks better, my recommendation is to use 45mm knob for Saltist 4000 up. 41mm knob for 2500 and 3000.
Right now, I am looking for reel stand keeper so I can replace the cheap cap.
besides that, this reel is well made.
Conscheap handle knob and handle cap

smooth reel but the drag is kind of tight when fish pull even when set too lighter tension
The 2500sz reel is very good for freshwater because you can cast all day without feeling fatigued.

A Great Reel
My friend loaned me this reel for 3 weeks. It performed great for me and had way more drag then I needed. Now I am spoil in a way that I own many high end reel and low cost reels. Van Staal 250 x series on down. I will be adding this reel, I really like this reel.
ProsGreat looks and performance

For all those daiwa haters out there i just have to day this is the smoothest reel I’ve ever seen. The drag is great and has this new magseal technology. Overall really good

not worth it over the bg
shares 95 percent of the same parts with bg, only difference is the air-bail which is a very minor change and mag seal which is useless in a partially sealed reel, water can get right into the gearbox not to mention the extra cost of sending the reel to daiwa for service of the mag seal, if you want a boat reel get the bg, if you want a reel that can be dunked the cheapest fully sealed reel is the spheros sw.

pretty good reel
I like the reel overall but the only thing that I don't like is the weight and size difference between the 4000 and the 4500 I bought the 4000 loved it but I wanted something with a little bit more line capacity so I got the 4500. The size of the spool just doesn't look right with the size of the body of the reel. Very heavy for a spool of that size. Other than that it is a very nice reel!
ProsGreat performance and durability
ConsThe spool sizes compared to the reel body

I'm looking to pair this with my 10' Tsunami Airwave TSAWSS1002MH and St. Crioix Mojo MSS110MHMF2. I know these reels are sized bigger than Shimano which is what I normally use. It will be used for surf fishing using bait or lures, targeting big fish. I'm looking for long casting, high line capacity on 50-60lb braid and higher drag, but would like to have it as light as possible....LOL!! I know these reels aren't the lightest. Debating on this or BG model. Any suggestions?
1 Answers
Size for size the Daiwa BG and the Daiwa Saltist weight wise are exactly the same. I would recommend the Saltist 6500, it's not going to be light but line capacity and a strong drag it does have.

Which rod (preferably 2 pieces) would you recommend to match Daiwa saltist 5000 reel? TSAWSS-902XH and STIN76HFS rods look good. I'm preparing for shore fishing (from the reef edge, probably 50 lb braided line and 60-100 g lures) for 10+ kg GTs. Would you change this setup?
1 Answers
Fishing from a boat your going to want to go with the STIN76HFS. Fishing from a pier or the shore lines the TSAWSS-902XH would be a good option. Both can be used with the size braid your using. The overall better balance that you could get would be with the Tsunami rod.
