The Crippled Herring is the most versatile lure you'll ever use. It is natural both in appearance and action and can be used worldwide, every day of the year, for both fresh and salt water fishing.

The Crippled Herring is constructed to take full advantage of the natural predatorial instinct common to all gamefish. Every movement of any type of distressed baitfish (stunned, struggling or dying) has been assimilated into this lure.

A Crippled Herring will arouse fish and provoke strikes when conventional lures or natural bait will not, like, for instance, on a dead calm, bright sunny day. It is a sight-sound lure, which can be cast vertically jigged through ice or open water, mooched or trolled.

This lure is great for Striped Bass, Bluefish, False Albacore, Bonito, and Bluefin Tuna. The larger sizes are retrofit with strong, single Gamakatsu Hooks for more hook holding power against strikes initiated by big Striped Bass and Bluefin Tuna.

Great lure for saltwater stripers and bluefish and other predator fish
Lure has a crimped back which will allow it to mimic an injured bait fish. Excellent lure for stripers and blue in saltwater. Casts like a bullet or can be trolled.
ProsCasting distance

Great lure for saltwater stripers and bluefish
Love this lure. Casts like a bullet and can be used for stripes, bluefish and other predatory fish.
ProsLong distance casting, can be trolled
ConsHook gap is not wide enough on the smaller ones. Switch out to a solid circle hook for better hook ups

Great Action
The Luhr Jensen Crippled Herring has great action in the water. Once the proper retrieve speed has been established, the action of this lure is enticing to the blue fish and the striped bass. We bumped into a school of feeding schoolie bass off Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro and I was into one after another with the Crippled Herring.
ProsGreat action, great casting distance profile in the water

Bluefish magnet
Great lure for blue fish that are out deep. Being a surf fisherman, Iā€™m always looking to reach those fish that seem to be just out of reach. Luhr Jensenā€™s Crippled Herring allowed me to get to the blues that were hitting out deeper st Race Point in Provincetown. We ran into the fish and the only way to reach them was with metal, and this lure was perfect.
ProsCasting distance, profile in the water, reeling speed

Great caster
This lure casts very well and moves through the water well too. Iā€™ve only caught schoolies with it so far, but expect to get into big blue fish when I find them.

Tackle Box Staple
Great affordable lure that casts very well which is needed for fishing the surf. Have caught blues, stripers and fluke with this. My favorite part might be they are rigged with a single hook and not a treble!

crippled herring lure cripples the snapper blues into biting
the 1/2 oz lure is perfect for light action spinning gear for snappers and stripers alike. They could not resist this lure retrieved along the top at a good retrieve speed! After several uses and rinses with freshwater the lure and hook still look new.

Very nice lures
I bought this lure in two colors, I was sold on the write up. they look great in the water. I made the mistake of casting them in a rocky area, and the wire loops on either end bent. I would suggest to troll them or fish the beach, rocky shoreline is rough on any lure, but theses seemed to get banged up faster than most.
Proslooks great
