Ordered the awesome PENN CLASH 4000, called the next day to add a spool full of braid and to my delight it was already shipped!! Not only is that awesome, the reel IS SO NICE. It looks so good,, really something to look at ,all the weight saving cuts and carbon fiber accent the classic penn gold. Looks awesome and the performance as good and better than you could expect. Extra smooth drag plenty of stopping power and those CNC'ed gears are so smooth and strong. It has done the trick on Pompano and redfish so far. And they have been upper slot red's. Reel will work for many applications ordering another 2 for bait rods!!! Awesome purchase from TACKLE DIRECT and A STAPLE BRAND LIKE PENN
ProsLooks Light Smooth and strong drag Cnc 'ed gears are tight and smooth
ConsNone for me

Great Spinning Reel for the Money
January 9, 2020
I have been using this reel in the surf since Penn introduced a couple of years ago, putting it on a 10 foot GSB. I have tamed teen size bluefish with a drag that is smooth. It has stood up to sand and surf and has not failed me yet. It holds a fair amount of 30 or 40 lbs power pro. I liked it so much I got a second one to put on a 11 foot GSB. I highly recommend this reel for both 10 and 11 foot rods.
ProsIt is light and strong, holds a fair amount of 30 or 40 pound braid, and the drag is super smooth.
ConsNone yet!

Home run Penn!

This Clash is one of the best reels penn has ever made! I own 4 of them! Penn really did their homework on these bad boys. I honestly can't find any flaw in them. Lightweight and strong with a great drag. What else do you want in a spinning reel used primarily for casting artificials? I also own a few slammer III reels and an amazing reel as well. Penn, has really stepped their game up over the last few years...
ProsLightweight, strong, excellent line lay, physically a good looking reel, and an affordable price. You can't go wrong purchasing a Penn Clash!
ConsI honestly can't think of any and I always have something negative to say when answering this question!

Lovin' it!

This Penn reel is a great investment in my & my children's fun! The drag is powerful and smooth. I really like the round knob handles that are supplied now instead of the old paddle of yesteryear. I may eventually upgrade to an aluminum knob but that will be down the road a bit. With Penn's reputation for longevity, I look forward to handing this one down to my son. I currently use a 45 GLS I purchased about 30 years ago...so I have every intention of seeing this one get handed to my Grandchild.
ProsStrong & smooth drag Good line capacity strong reliable construction it may outlive you...

ConsThe picture shows a round handle knob but the reel came with the regular rectangular knob.

i have a Mojo Surf 9' and a TFO 10' 6" would the Penn Clash 5000 pair well with these rods. I currenlty have a Penn Spinfisher 6500LL and a Shimano Ultegra xtd 5500 i use as well.
1 Answer
The 5000 would pair well with the 9 foot St.Croix but not the 10'6". The Ultegra will pair very well with the 10'6"

Can the Penn Clash 6000 be converted to Bail Less ? THANK YOU
1 Answer
No it can not. If you are looking for a similarly sized bailess spinning reel in the same price range I'd suggest looking at the Penn Spinfisher VI 6500BLS.

2 parts - Clash or Slammer 3 for NJ surf fishing on sandy beaches, and which size of each would be the best match for a Mojo 10'6" 3/4 - 4? Throwing plugs, tins and bucktails, no bait.
1 Answer
Both would match well with the rod. The Penn Clash would be better casting plugs.
