The Curado DC casting reel is Shimano's most advanced Curado ever produced. Built on the platform that has made the Curado name synonymous with durability and versatility, the Curado DC adds Shimano's NEW Digital Control Braking system. The DC Braking system uses a completely sealed microcomputer that analyzes the spool speed 1,000 times per second and automatically applies the precise braking to achieve maximum casting distance while preventing backlash. No matter the wind conditions, weather, or lure weight, 4 easy adjustments on the side plate allow the angler to quickly and definitively "set and forget" the brakes and let the reel do the work.

Shimano Technology Found In Curado DC Reels :
  • Cross Carbon Drag - Allows for a wider range of drag settings, enhanced drag washer durability, and the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever.
  • Hagane Body - A reel body with high rigidity, which virtually eliminates body flexing due to it’s stiffness and impact resistance. The result? An angler’s actions are more efficiently transformed into cranking power. It’s efficiency through strength.
  • I-DC4 Braking - Intelligent Digital Control braking features an easy to use 4 setting external dial that can be easily adjusted on the water to provide optimal braking as conditions and lures change.
  • Micro Module Gear - State-of-the-art gear design makes use of smaller gear teeth and more of them, which results in a more efficient gear train and much smoother retrieve.
  • S A-RB Bearings - These bearings undergo the same anti-corrosion process as Shimano’s A-RB Bearings, with the addition of shields on both sides of the bearings to reduce the possibility of salt, dirt, or other foreign objects inhibiting the bearing’s rotation.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.

Compact, light, and durable

This reel is a powerful thing. The DC cast does provide some additional line control. However, it's not a guaranteed cast - the user is still involved in preventing back lashes. Casting into the wind and with light baits is improved. There is a distinct electronic noise that distinguishes it from it's non-DC cousin. I've owned it for nearly a year and fished in only salt water conditions. This reel is holding up very well.
Proscasting ease, durability, precision, light
Conselectronic noise is a little off-putting, but I'm just trying to come up with something for a con

I purchased this expecting to have issues with the RATS NEST i normally got when using a Baitcaster but this thing is amazing! Don't get me wrong I have left the thumb off a couple of times and get a mess but overall it is a great real if you remember the basic!
Highly recommend! Shimano makes QUALITY - I am also a cyclist as well and would not buy anything but Shimano!

Carefree casting

I picked up baitcasting reels late in my life. After much practice and understanding of the mechanics of the reel I became fairly good at it. However, that didn't prevent from time to time to get a bird nest. This reel eliminated this problem for me so I can concentrate in fishing and not getting bird nests. It is a fantastic reel.
ProsIt does what it says; settings for different line (braid, mono, flouro)

I have been using this reel for about a month now in the left hand variant because I’m used to lh spinning reels and this thing is great. Super smooth with easy to use drag system love it. Shiva o has never produced something I’ve complained about.

Shimano always steps their game up and using the DC technology in their Curado series is fantastic. I purchased the 8:5 ratio for flipping and pitching. The DC helps with skipping the jig for less back lash for newer fisherman.

The curado has a good history with many others. While I've used this one with the DC it makes it so much easier for beginners to learn to cast not to also mention that super satisfying sound

I just finally got my hands on one of these and couldn't be happier! Lightweight and seems strong.
ProsSuper light, smooth as butter and a GREAT sound when casting!
ConsThe freespool setup is different that conventional reels. Just pay attention to that. I'd like to see it build as a pure saltwater reel.

Well, I use to used a lot of baitcasters when I was younger. As I got older, I not really knowing switched to spinning reels. Shimano came out with this reel and I was immediately wanting to try this reel because of the DC control. So I bit the bullet and order one. Practiced in my yard for a few days and then went to the lake that weekend. And I have to say wow this reel is smooth. I would recommend this reel to anyone wanting to learn to throw a baitcaster or even a pro who wants a piece of mind.
ProsSmooth Easy to learn Strong drag

DC reel for $250? Yes please... comparatively to the Metanium DC it is a little heavier and not as smooth, but it will still cast a country mile, skip casting on setting 4 is amazing. Curado K for 180, Chronarch for 279. So Yes the Curado DC is a great buy.
ProsDC 150 Size spool Easy of Use
ConsWish it had low gear ratio

I wanted this reel as soon as it was released, but it took me a year to finally come around and get one. It is very smooth and hard to backlash if on the correct settings. I absolutely love this reel.

What is the power source for the "micro computer" ?

Everytime the spool spins it generates power, kind of like a alternator. There are no batteries or plugs needed for this reel.
