Shimano Grappler A Type J Jigging Spinning Rods

Leveraging advanced rod blank technologies and a detailed layout and design, the Shimano Grappler A Type J Jigging Spinning Rods offer a versatile tool built for jigging applications in nearshore to offshore waters. Whether you are simply targeting smaller fish or needing to step it up to target large bluefin tuna, the Grappler Type J is ideal for the Northeast angler targeting black seabass, tautog, fluke, cod, striped bass, bluefin & yellowfin tuna, or down south targeting sheepshead, snapper, grouper, yellowtail, triggerfish, amberjacks, blackfin tuna, and more. The Grappler series as a whole has been completely redesigned over its previous generation, with further refinement made to its actions and tapers seen in the rod blanks along with new components that ready to elevate the angling experience and tame the heartiest of species out there.

The Evolution of Rod Blank Technologies

At the core of the Grappler Type J is its advanced rod blank, utilizing both Shimano's proprietary Hi-Power X and Spiral X technologies to enhance the compressional and torsional rigidity without adding weight. The goal is to mitigate twist and blank ovalization that would normally happen under load, meaning the rod would be losing power, both for fighting fish and effectively working a vertical jig.

Hi-Power X technology involves wrapping carbon tape up and down the length of the blanks outermost layer, reinforcing its twist resistance. With this, Shimano can also fine tune the action of the rod blank, more correctly matching the needs of a jigging rod for smooth performance.

Spiral X technology utilizes diagonally multiple layers of carbon tape that are tightly wound diagonally in opposite directions of the rod blank, enhancing torsional and compression rigidity without adding extra weight. An extremely responsive rod blank is created with instant power transmission, improving and fish fighting capability.

Strengthening the Angling Experience

Seen on all Medium Light, Medium, and Medium Heavy Grappler J models, Shimano uses their CI4+ reel seat to lock down your favorite reel. Its CI4+ material is based off a reinforced carbon fiber, physically lighter and of higher strength then the conventional resin design with the added benefits of being more rigid and sensitive for the great bite detection. For Heavy, X Heavy, and XX Heavy models, a V Hold front rod grip and Fuji DPS reel seat is seen, increasing the ergonomic function of the rod to aid anglers targeting larger fish for with more grueling battles. Lightweight and durable Fuji Alconite guides line the length of each model, with comfortable EVA grips that continue the rods lightweight yet durable theme.
