Versatile, well balanced, and affordable, the Shimano Sienna FG Spinning Reels are well suited for everything from freshwater to light duty inshore fishing. The Sienna FG incorporates Shimano's Propulsion Line Management system for longer casts and reduced wind knots, and Super Stopper II for a 100% instant anti-reverse with zero backplay. Available in a range of sizes, the Sienna FG is a suitable choice for ultra-light or ice fishing, a variety of largemouth bass techniques, all the way up to inshore fishing for stripers, redfish, snook, and more.

Best for it's price class, hands down!!
January 6, 2020
When I received this reel, opened it up, and put it on a pole, I was really taken by surprise how smooth and FAST this thing is. You can pay twice or three times more for another brand, or you can buy this one. I prefer to save $..
ProsSpeed, smoothness, PRICE!
ConsNo option to switch from anti-reverse

I love higher end reels but phew

The price may make you question its quality but I would say this is one fine freshwater reel. I personally have a bunch of higher end reels but as a beginner I’d buy this. It’s buttery smooth for its price. Im especially fond of the 1000 version for trout and crappie. Also a great loaner reel that you wouldn’t be so hurt if it got damaged by your newbie friends

Best $30 real!
November 15, 2019
Bought 2 of them for light inshore and freshwater. Second time using it, I caught and released an 18 inch halibut off the surf and reeled it in with so much ease. Very smooth for a $30 reel.
ProsSmooth
ConsNone so far

Is this real suitable for saltwater fishing?

What rod do you recommend for this reel?

1 Answer
This reel is mostly designed to be used in freshwater or light inshore applications. Depending on what size reel and what you are fishing for I would recommend any Light or Medium inshore rods. A Penn Battalion Inshore, or a Shimano Teramar Inshore Southeast would pair well.
