The Shimano Torium Star Drag Reels are new to Shimano's Torium series reels. They are compact, rigid, and powerful saltwater conventional reels with excellent castability and durability expected by saltwater anglers.

  • S Compact Body: Power-Rigidity-Durability, results in a reel that feels one size smaller in your hand. The B side sideplate is all one piece contributing to both rigidity and in-the-hand palming comfort. The A side side plate has the handle, drag adjustment and cast control knob.
  • E.I.: is a second layer of surface treatment that is added after the anodizing process. This treatment is forced into any micro sized surface impurities, giving salt no place to adhere thus preventing corrosion.
  • Cross Carbon Drag: The ideal material for the high drag pressure setting, with smoothness and consistent performance.

Torium 16HGAL
Good solid well built reel, with ample cranking power with oversized handle sufficient drag to handle most situations. Fishing in New England like most other places you have no idea what you'll catch this reel can handle them all!
ProsPower handle, wide drag range, cast ability
ConsNot the most balanced reel one side much heavier than the other

Torium 16hgl
This reel is great. I spooled it with 65lb Maxcuatro and it holds a ton. Casts great and the line is easily guided due to its narrow profile. Haven’t had a chance to fish for big fish but it yanked the Calico out of the kelp with ease.

Light Weight Super Smooth Great Value
I'd take this reel and be able to buy another one if it broke before buying a $400 Shimano reel with similar specst. This thing is a well rounded do it all reel. Load it up with 50 pound braid 17lbs of drag when needed and a super smooth 38" line retrieve make this reel amazing value and a nice winner from Shimano. Thought the 14 size would be small for bottom fishing in 100+ feet but its not at all. Highly recommend this reel and its a perfect pairing with my 6'6" MH Trevala Rod.

Outrageously great deal
i spend most of my time throwing jigs in Southern Ca for yellowtail, bonita; barracuda, and schoolie size tuna and this reel is awesome. Really solid feel, great drags, good frespool and strong gearing. Only hit is for weak clamp setup, the heads on the anchor bolts break off easily, purchased a tiburon clamp setup $40.00 so I could put on deckhand style rods - this is the only thing keeping it from 5 stars.
ProsHandle feel, drags and jigging ability.
ConsCheap clamp setup

Purchased 2 reels to compliment my 2 older Toriums and was thrilled with positive changes. Smaller footprint and better handle. Same great drag and high speed retrieve.

Fantastic reel!
The fast retrieve ratio is excellent for deep jigging and bottom fishing. Especially when you need to get up fast to re-bait and get back down! They are a big hit on my boat every time a new guest uses them.
ProsLightweight. Retrieve ratio. Smooth drag.

great reel
Superb casting and fast retrieve. At this price there's no need to spend $500 plus on a 2 speed unless you have weak hands.
