The new Shimano Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rods are made with the all new Shimano C4S blank construction which utilizes high modulus blank and wraps 4 outer layers of 90 degree graphite. The C4S construction is a unique design that uses Carbon "C" a 4 layer process "4" and slit carbon tape "S" while using high modulus carbon "HM". THe rod is wrapped with an inner and outer layer of carbon tape over two layers of carbon pre-preg. This design significantly increases the strength of the rod but more importantly increases the recovery rate which in turn allows you to cast farther and more accurately as it helps eliminate blank twist when put under a heavy load. This new rod construction will increase the hoop strength for maximum pulling power without inhibiting the sensitivity.

  • Custom long cast concept guide spacing
  • Fuji stainless steel frame with alconite inserts
  • Black shrink tube grip
  • Fuji DPS reel seat

High quality surf rod for light use
I own two of these rods, the 9'6" and the 10'6". Both are fantastic light plugging rods! I've thrown plugs up to 3oz with the 10'6" and 2.5oz with the 9'6". They both throw SP minnows and other light plugs very well! And they work pencil poppers and other topwater lures nicely. Solid backbone in both rods, and a nice uniform bend. Easy to forget it's a 2 piece. Overall a very nice surf rod for light use.
ProsHigh quality surf rod for light use. Makes schoolies fun and can handle a fish into the 20# class.

Shimano Tiralejo 12'
For surf fishing in Florida replaced 12 ft ugly sticks with a pair of 12 ft tiralejo rods. Paired with Battle 8000's. They are super nice, light, powerful. Great rod.
ProsLight weight, easy to load on cast, casts further, good with bigger chunk bait, handles big fish (sharks to 5 ft) yet sensitive enough detect bites and fight small fish.
ConsI like the small diameter handle untill I fought a shark for 1 hr 20 min from the beach, it was painful. Need gloves if fighting big fish. Broken handle on 3 rd day got wedged in rod holder on take..

Great Surf Rod
Fished this beauty for the first time a couple weeks ago on the Gulf in South Florida. The weather was terribly windy. Was casting a consistent 70-80 yards in a sustained 30 knot headwind compared to my other 10' surf Rod which would barely cast 50. I was casting 6 oz Sputnik sinkers and light chunk just to hold bottom. I paired this Rod with shimano ultegra 10000 xsc and it was a match made in heaven. No wind knots in 70+ hours on the beach using 40 lb braid. Casting 6 oz is on the high end for this Rod but it handled it well. Looking forward to fishing in more favorable conditions later in the year. I imagine 3-4 oz and bait would be the sweet spot for this Rod.

Best Rod for the surf spinning/jigging
I fish in Africa for Barracudas, Snappers and Jacks and others. I use Jigs and poppers and I have must of the best rods available on the market for surf spinning/jigging, but since I got my Shimano Tiralejo 106MA (second generation) and my 2015 Saltiga 4500H I leave the rest home.

Great Rod NY Long Island Surf and Jetty
Great surfcasting Rod. I fish primarily for Stripers Blues and Albies, but this rod is sensitive enough for fluking too. I left off a star only because at the time I purchased it shimano was not offering a one piece. The 9 1/2 footer casts incredibly well. My last couple of rods were St croixs and I Feel it was a step up in quality even though their service and replacement policies are better.
ProsCasts great Plenty of backbone Sensitive

Excellent for surf fishing.
Great rod for surf fishing, life bait, jigging or any type of lure The rod is very light, using a light weight reel will be better

I LOVE this rod!
I recently purchased this spinning rod. I was looking for an affordable quality surfcasting spinning rod with Fuji K-guides that was about 12 to +12 feet in length. This rod is light for its size. It has "back bone" and can control nice size hard fighting fish. Best of all it launches my bait and lures out there with ease using the pendulum and easy casts. I use both the Shimano Ultegra 10000 and the Shimano Stella 18000 loaded with super braid with this pole depending on what I am doing and how I am feeling that day/night.

I would love it if Shimano would still have its limited lifetime warranty for this pole. If they did it would make a perfect pole and investment.

Nice rod for the money
I was fishing the surf this fall when a pod of bunker were just out of my reach, so I decided to move up and purchase this rod. Great choice the rod easily adds 20-30 yards to my cast. This rod feels great it casts well and has great power. Casting this rod is such a pleasure. The rod has plenty of backbone for getting your offering out there.

Hi, I am looking at the TRS120MH for dropping casts just outside the surfine. What would be some appropriate reels for this rod with line in the 25-30lb range?

The Shimano ultegra xtd ci4+ or the Van Staal VS200XP VS X-Series Spinning Reel will give you the power and distance you'll need

I am looking at buying the 12ft model. I am going to pair it with a power aero 14000 XSB. Although lower than the line rating would this be OK to use with 20lb power pro. I will be using a 20 - 60lb tapered mono leader. I never understand why these are rated for up to 50lb mainline. Thanks in advance for your help.

The Shimano TRS120MHA Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rod can still be used with the 20 lb braid your intending to use.

I'm thinking about purchasing this rod as well as a Shimano Ultegra 5500XSC reel to be used as a system. I'm leaning to the Ultegra 5500 over the Ultegra 10000XSC since the 5500 is lighter and I'm planning on using this combination to surf fish with plugs. Is it a good decision to pair these two items ?
1 Answers
Yes. The Tiralejo is designed to be fished with the Ultegra and Aero Technium reels. If you are going with the 12' rod, we suggest going with the 10000 size reel. It is sized to be fished on the 12" rod. If you go with the 5500 on that rod, you won't get quite the same distance. The main reason is that the angle at which the line leaves the reel is smaller, causing the line to slap against the rod which creates friction and cuts down on casting distance. It will work, but it will cut down on your distance. Either way you go, it will be a great combo for you.
