Very Long Caster
I have purchased two of these reels to use on surf rods. I overload line on reels to reduce friction from the front lip of the spool. These reels cast noticeably further than the two that they are replacing and I have not had an issue with wind knots from over loading them. They are FAST retrievers also. Only issue is because they do not have a skirt on the spool they can get line wrapped under the spool and around the spindle if you are not careful.
ProsLong caster. Quick retrieve
Consline can easily get under the spool.

always been a Penn man, but after looking at reviews on the Shimano reels I might have to try one. I mean 44 lbs of drag for $160, yep that is a good deal

Great, Balance
The reel is light and balances with my rods from 9 to 13, feet. The spool is long to allow for better dostance. I own 5 of these, and fish hard. Just keep em clean, should last a long time

Nicely made spinner
This is a well made reel that is typical of other Shimano reels I have been using. It is smooth, relatively light weight for its size and holds a ton of braid. All at a reasonable price.

Good reel for the money!
Good reel for the money. I put it on a 10.5 ' medium action rod for surf fishing in Monterey Bay , CA. and it casts a mile. The reel is very smooth. I would suggest using backing on both the spools as it holds an incredible amount of 30 lb. braid. The drag is very smooth and adjustable. A couple of things that is troublesome is the bail does not lock open sometimes making it necessary to rotate the spool for it to lock in a casting position . Also the bail is hard to close by cranking the handle making it easier to manually close the bail. Overall ,weighing the good points over the bad, for the money, it's a good reel. :)

Long casting system
This reel has completed my long casting system. My very first cast with a 4 oz lead get over 120 yard easy with very minimal effort. I pair this reel with 12 foot gloomis imx surf rod

Great casting
Used a friend of mine reel last fall and had to go buy one myself. Great casting plus plenty of drag pressure to slow down the big game fish.
ProsComes with line spool adapters so if you don't want to wind on a full 400+ yds. of line. Smooth reeling and love the manual bail flip, don't have to worry about line snapping on casts when you try to get that extra distance.

GREAT REEL!
This is a great reel. The ULT5500XTD is very light. I paired it with my 9€™ TFO for plugging. This reel casts very far with 30lb. Power Pro Slick 8. I€™ve used it numerous times in the surf and the drag is amazing. With proper maintenance this reel should last a long time! I ordered this reel on Black Friday, (2017), with the Power Pro, they spooled it and it was delivered on Saturday! One day! Very pleased! Thank you Don at Tackle Direct!
ProsLightweight Casts far Great drag.

Long distance
I€™ve only had the chance to throw this on grass so far but paired with the right rod this thing will bomb it out there. Like the spool spacers because if using light braid you don€™t have to pack it with mono backing

These Ultegra reels comes with Slow and Super Slow oscillation which will not make difficult in spinning ? due to retrieval of lure becoming slow ? That does't make this reels only for the use of casting baits rather than lures. Correct me if this wrong.
1 Answers
The slow oscillation of the Ultegra XTD refers to the rate of the spool moving up and down while cranking. The rotor revolves around the reel at a typical speed, thus wrapping the line around the spool at the same rate, just more parallel. This reel retrieves 41" of line per crank, which is very similar to other types of reels used for surf fishing with lures.

How does it compare to the penn spinfisher v 7500LC for distance?
1 Answers
The Spinfisher V 7500LC and the Ultegra XTD use the same principles of an elongated spool and slow rotor oscillation in order to increase casting distance. In terms of casting efficiency they are very similar.

All the media i can find on this reel is for carp fishing but the specs make it seem to be a great prospect for being a saltwater surf reel, possibly for even larger game like tarpon. Is this reel suitable for the florida surf and heavy saltwater conditons?
1 Answers
This reel is indeed very popular among the carp fishing community. However it is designed with long distance surf casting and saltwater fishing in mind, as is all the other models of the Ultegra surf reels.
