Nice light surf rod.
I was looking for a replacement of an old light action shorter (71/2 ft.) surf rod that I've had since the 70's! It took a while to find, but the star stellar lite fit the bill perfectly! I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it will be great. I can't wait to try it out hopefully this spring in Florida casting jigs for pompano in the surf. The rod it's self has great components and is well built. Well worth the money!

Favorite 2 piece surf rod
I love this rod. Short butt length. Big guides, none of that silly micro stuff. Can throw 3/8-1.5oz. I use this rod to throw small bucktails, sp minnows and plastics in the NJ surf. Super fun to fish and handles keeper stripers without trouble. It is on the moderate-fast side, don't expect a very fast rod. It allows you to make far casts without much effort. It is just right for smaller presentations and I am super picky about rods.
Prosshort butt 2 piece stripper guide on the bottom half super light weight with plenty of backbone big guides allow knots with heavy leaders to pass freely

Excellent 2 piece 8 foot surf rod for NJ
The rod is a little under rated as it is pretty stiff. I would say sweet spot is towards the upper range. I would rate it at 3/4-3oz. It is a very light rod with big guides and short butt length compared to other brands. In my opinion there is no point of owning a 8 foot rod with 20" butt length like st croix seems to like to do. This one is about 13". I really like that the stripper guide is on the bottom half of the rod. The guides are big and few and allow any kind of knot with heavy leader to pass through without getting destroyed. For the money I don't think you can do better for a 2 piece 8 foot rod and I have tried many.

Great rod
I couldn't be more happier with this rod at this price point. I've had more expensive, more popular name brands break on me. This rod does the job and it's reasonably priced. I have caught hundreds of striped bass on this rod with no issues. I can't say the same about the more expensive rods because they have all broken on me. I am a Star fan for sure.
ProsThe price and it has held up on countless fish. Thank you Star.
ConsNot much considering the price point.

Nice, light surf rod for a great price
I really like the rods from Star. When I don't want to load up the $300 Lami, this is a great option for a lighter day.

11' MH 2-5oz
I like this rod, its light, smooth casting, has good bend on the top half and strong backbone on the bottom
Proseverything said above
Consthe reason I bought this rod is because the handle length is short, in the description it listed at 19 inches, but mine is 22 1/2 from the bottom of reel seat to the butt, either tackledirect list it wrong or I have the older model

A friend recommended this rod as a good affordable light rid for stripers. It was really nice for an hour or so...throwing light lures really well. Then it broke while retrieving a lure with seaweed on it. Tackledirect is standing behind it but it's disappointing.

9' Star Stellar Surf Rod
Rod was a Christmas gift from my daughter. She knows my tackle preferences. Rod is on par with rods I normally use, Daiwa and Lamiglas. Rod is very well made with a nice parabolic action and "feel". I'm looking forward to fishing with it soon.

Beautiful Rod with Fuji guides
70/30 split rod. Fast shipping and well packaged. Description says pac bay guides but is a mistake the rod has fuji guides. Extremely nice finish and wrappings. Very nice 11' rod.
ProsExcellent quality and a lifetime warranty, light.

Perfect bucktail & sp minnor rod
This is a perfect size and action for bucktails and sp minnows from the surf. I am extremely picky with my rods and this one is THE ONE. I have bought, tried and sold a tica dolphin 8-9, triumph 8-9, star stellar surf 8mh-9, lamiglass insane 9, airwave 7-9, st croix mojo 7-9. I went through a lot of rods and this rod beats them all. Pair it with a 4000-5000 reel and you have a perfect surf combo for 1/2-2oz lures.

Great rod!
This rod is so light weight but it has some serious backbone. It casts like a dream and makes lure fishing off the beach a lot more pleasurable. The fact that this is a one piece rod versus the typical two piece makes me like it even more. Great purchase at a great price.

Hello, is the 10' a good match for a BG4000 and is this rod a 50/50 split? Thanks
1 Answers
The 4500 would match up a little better because of weight and line capacity, the rod is currently out of stock. When it does become available we'll be able to tell the split of the 10 foot rod.

For the star SG90IS Surf Spin (2pc) I was wondering if this would be a good plugging rod for stripers and blues off nj surf? Also what size penn slammer 3 would be the best matchup for this rod?
1 Answers
Either the 10 foot paired with the 4500 slammer III or the 5500 paired with the 11 foot would be a great combo for the surf.

Best reel size for the 8 foot 1/2 to 3? Is it a 50/50 split?
1 Answers
The best reel size would be 4000 Penn, Shimano, and Okuma 40 reels. For a Daiwa i would have to advise a 3000 or 3500 size reel.
