Two years on.
Bought this jacket two years ago while visiting the U.S. Haven't seen anything like it in Europe and although I've several fishing jackets this is my first choice for foul weather. This jacket performs as per the description. It's warm, flexible and coupled with my neoprene waders allows me to spend the hours I want on the beach regardless of conditions. The material and zipper show no sign or deterioration after two seasons wear. Would highly recommend this jacket.
ProsGood materials. Good design
ConsPermanent hood wish sometimes it was detachable.

This is a great product. It is light weight yet very warm. I got it for my husband for christmas for him to use when fishing in the winter. He used it this past week and it was less than 30 degrees outside and early morning. He said he never got cold all day.

Finally found what I'm looking for
Had to quit fishing in the middle of the night because your too cold? Me too. Finally got the right gear. Enough room to layer underneath. Doesn't interfere with casting. Hooded and drawstrings.
ConsIf it had a neoprene watertight waistband it would be perfect. And more expensive 😕

Very nice jacket
I got to test this once after i received them but they did their job well. Was warm and dry. I am glad i didn't go up a size cuz these are pretty roomy. I normally wear and XXL jacket/coat but decided to get the XL in this jacket as i saw reviews online stating these are a little large. I was able to wear a thick hooded fleece under my jacket and it didn't feel tight. My movement was not impaired either.

Older version may be better?
The zipper broke on my last jacket I had a nice green version. They stood behind their product and sent me a new one, but seems like the build is a bit lighter. Zippers look cheaper and this one isnt as thick as the one I had. Didn't have the same color either so I got black. it does seem a bit easier to move around in. I used the other jacket alot and it did hold up very well, so Im hoping the new upgrade does the same. Time will definitely tell.

Great cold weather jacket
Jacket is super warm while wearing minimal layers. Use it for fishing as well as yardwork (fall clean up, winter shoveling, etc.) Very versatile piece at a great price point. Runs a bit large. I'm 6'3" and 300 lbs. Usually a 3XL. Was too big. 2XL was perfect with room to spare.
ProsFlexible even in cold Great price point Versatile
ConsRuns a bit big.

Best money spent
Bought the jacket to replace north face shell I was using. First time using a purpose built jacket for surf fishing so my review will not compare to other surf fishing jackets. Easy to cast with the jacket on and keeps me dry/warm.

Best Rain Jacket
I do not have this exact color (mine is black) but this jacket is amazing. Its like wearing a pair of neoprene waders as a top but is in no way restricts casting. I use it both on boats and surf fishing and it is by far the best foul weather jacket i have owed. It is pretty warm as well which i was not expecting.

I've had this jacket for about 2 years now I think. As soon as I saw the product line I knew someone had come up with a winner. Having been a scuba diver I know the properties of neoprene and just how warm it can keep you. What I wasn't expecting was the comfort from the fleece inner lining that makes this jacket easy to come on and off. My only warning is that they run big so you may want to order a size smaller than usual. I ordered a large and ended up having to return it for a medium as I was swimming in it....and not in the water. So far after many times being tossed in a boat hold or compartment and being exposed to the elements it's held up well. The only problem is one of the pocket zippers broke. I've also got the matching bibs to go with this jacket and it's hard to find a better combo to keep you warm and dry on cold winter days. I can also attest to their buoyancy as I took an unexpected dive from my boat one day trying to reach up on top of the T-Top. It was one of those horrible slow motion falls where you know exactly what's coming and can do nothing to stop it. I hit the 50 degree water and don't believe I have ever moved so fast in my life. I managed to get back aboard before my wife even knew what was going on. Even with the cold water and cold air temps I was still warm for the ride back home. I was even dry in my mid section where the bibs and coat kept me covered. Only my legs below my knees were wet from the zipper line on the bibs. I've added a picture taken just minutes before my fateful slip. At least we didn't come home empty handed!

You will NEVER get cold in one of these jackets !! Windproof and waterproof - I have worn it in some awful weather and come out smiling. Can get a bit sweaty on the inside if you are very mobile and working up a sweat.
ProsWindproof and waterproof. WARM !!!
ConsCan get hot and sweaty if you are very active

Bought this jacket on sale for a great price from TD. Great Jacket, it's plenty warm and water proof. Plenty of room to wear layers underneath. Love the feel and look. Has a great pocket on the inside to keep cellphone safe and dry. The only criticism I can make is that it does restrict a little bit of movement and when fully zipped it comes up past my chin and is slightly uncomfortable so thats why it doesnt get 5 stars. Overall it's a great jacket for fishing in cold and foul weather.
ProsWarm roomy waterproof Inside dry pocket
Conskind of bulky and restrictive

Great Jacket, Clunky Zipper
I have difficulty with the zipper which is heavy duty but I always struggle to get it zipped up, otherwise it is a fantastic jacket, just don't try to wear it when the weather is warm. We we're fishing in a downpour on the beach and the rain gear I was wearing was soaked through. I changed in to a pair of PVC bibs and this jacket. It kept me bone dry but the temp was close to 70 degrees even though it was late October in the middle of the night. When I took the jacket off I had sweated through my clothes. It is great for cold and wet conditions. Rain is not going to get through this jacket. Haven't had a chance to test the buoyancy yet and to be perfectly honest I hope I never have to. I also received a free Storm 50L Wet Bag as a promotion with my purchase which was an added plus. This is gear that will last me a lifetime of fishing!
ProsGreat design, fit and workmanship. High quality top of the line gear!!

BEST COLD WEATHER FISHING JACKET
I have had one of these jackets for a few years now and I can honestly say it's the best cold weather fishing jacket I have ever owned. Been fishing for 40 yrs, fresh and salt water. These jackets keep you warm, dry and remain flexible. I've used these when fishing for fall stripers, winter wreck trips as well as fall and winter steelhead trips. It has proven to be great on all of them.
November 22, 2015
Very warm Jacket
This jacket does the job it said. Make sure you purchase the right size, it must fit perfectly and leave no air gap between your body and the jacket to keep yourself warm. Wind and water proof tested well. Very happy of my purchase.
ProsLight weight. Flexible.
ConsPockets are not water proof well enough.

ConsWish it had adjustable cuffs but only the more expensive models do. Still a great jacket.

A MUST HAVE JACKET
I have owned this jacket for over a year and have worn it from late fall thru winter and in to early spring. I've used on the ocean fishing wrecks in the cold, wind, rain and snow as well as fishing for salmon and steelhead in western N.Y. This jacket it extremely warm, waterproof and windproof. It remains flexible and moves with you as you cast and fight fish. It has also held up well, so I would rate it durable also. I bought it on sale from Tackle Direct a while back and would gladly pay the full price or more if I ever had to buy another one. All in all a great jacket and IMO a must have for the year round fisherman.
ProsEverything about it.

Absolutely Warm Jacket
Used jacket for the first time yesterday. The outside temperature was 37 degrees F. Extremely cool for us pansies who live in Southern California. Made the trek from Long Beach, Ca to Santa Catalina Island (28 miles). It was cool if you consider the wind chilled factor, riding the bow on a open Triumph Center Console boat with no windshield in front of you. I used a hoodie underneath the Stormr, a face mask I use on the Harley and off we went. The Stormr jacket shielded me from the cold. I gotta get the pants now
ProsWarm jacket. Had to remove once I started catching fish.

Nothing gets past
I have several other waterproof jackets I use for skiing/backcountry hunts/ waterfowling. But for running a fast center console boat in the winter, I reach for this one. Not too thick, but has a good enough liner to wear against skin comfortably all day. Combined with a lightweight insulation layer, it suits my needs even down to the 40 degree mark. The neoprene is stretchy enough to fish easily from, and its sized right on. Good buy.
ProsNice looking jacket. Well designed. Good materials.

Now I own two Stormr Jackets. Their products are awesome. Keeps you dry and warm. The only complaint I have is that the zipper is hard to move them up and down.

ConsZipper is a bit tough to move up and down

This jacket is warm, flexible and perfect for cold weather angling. This second generation jacket runs smaller than the original but runs true to size. I am 6'2" 180 and Large was the best fit for me. Top quality and I would highly recommend this for cold weather angling.

Just what I was looking for.
What I was looking for was a weather proof jacket for lots of uses but mainly watching my sons soccer games. When you are just standing there not generating body heat, you have to bundle up to much to make it through a weekend tournament. I have an old Slippery When Wet neoprene jacket from way back in my jet ski days that did what I wanted but just so out of date in looks and not appropriate for my intended use. It was also just standard neoprene for wearing on the beach so not the most comfortable. Started searching for other neoprene jackets and this is where I ended up. Fit. I am 5'11" 190. Strong build but a bit of emergency reserve around the waistline. I heard so much that this jacket runs very large. I usually wear a large and sometimes XL as I have long arms. No way was I gonna try a Medium as recommended. I went with Large. This jacket fits perfect! Just a bit of extra room that wearing a thick sweat shirt or fleece under is just fine. The neoprene is stretchy and very comfortable. Not your usual neoprene. Wearing just a T shirt under it feels like a perfect fit to be active in. Arms have a little extra length for my long arms. Perfect! Really like that heavy duty zippers. Feels like I will never have a problem with them. Hood fits great and with the higher collar you can really zip it all the way up and block out the elements. Fleece Interior feel is very comfortable to the skin. Performance. Windproof? Yes. Waterproof? not tested yet but no worries here as the material beads water and zippers are waterproof. Warm? Yes. However. It is warm but when you are using it as I do, just standing there, not generating body heat, you will get cold. You will need to layer properly. I got a little cold in 40 degree evening with light wind, just a light fleece shirt on. If I had my Down sweater on, I think could have been better. Or maybe a quick set of pushups and jumping jacks would have done the trick. But this leads to the only negative I have about the jacket that kept if from five stars. It holds moisture. Does not breath the best. I was wearing it around the yard and in the garage for a bit and when I came inside and took it off I felt a bit damp. Sweat. I was not working hard at all. The shirt I was wearing felt moist. Not a deal breaker, just something to plan for as getting stuck in the cold with sweaty cloths is not a good idea. Plan for moisture wicking layers. Wish the jacket had armpit zippers. Overall I am very happy with the jacket! Looks very nice too. Good looking jacket.
ProsComfortable jacket. Versital. Windproof. Really able to bundle up in it. Seems very durable.

Worn and real waterproof sweater.
Went a fishing trip were it was raining half of the time, I did not get wet. Also, buy it here as it is cheaper here than anywhere else. I made the mistake of buying it on the book website and paid almost $60 more.

Great All Weather Protection
I bought this jacket to be used as a surf top, for protection from the harsh weather during the Fall Run in the Northeast. However, what I found is that I can use this jacket during the early part of the Spring, when the weather is as unpredictable as the Fall. Even when it warms up when the sun comes up, I do not heat up. As this jackets lining really does a good job of wicking the moisture buildup away. And wearing Neoprene, you would think you would warm up and sweat as if you were in a Geranium! Not at all the case. Even when I am on the beach in the Fall, and am unable to use my truck to move, I do a lot of walking. Not once did I sweat while moving, or get cold when standing. Great all around jacket in my opinion. Just be sure to by the size you normally wear. The jacket is cut big to allow for layering. And you will not find a cheaper price than at Tackle Direct.

Extremely Warm and Dry
I have tried everything from Cabelas, Grudens, Mustang, and Guy Cotton. We fish year round in the cold and rainy seasons and have always used the 3 layer science. 3 layers Base to remove moisture from sweat, insulation layer/windproof layer(windproof fleece), and then shell layer, to battle water elements. The science is then to trap 3 layers of air in between these clothes, your body will heat the trapped air to body temp. and this is what keeps you warm in harsh climate. You would be very surprised to see the minimal amount of clothing necessary when wearing the typhoon jacket to survive in harsh climate. I have used as little as a long sleeve t-shirt to as much as a fleece in low 30's temps with cold seas spraying down on you. This jacket has been amazing not only on the water but during many of those rainy and snowy days in the northeast.

Sizing question: I usually wear everything medium and I and 5'6" 150 lb should I just go for medium or small? I don't mind tightly fit but not too loose fit.
A small should fit best. These jackets are sized a bit large so if you normally wear a medium, a small will fit these more comfortably. The Stormr sizing chart can be found on the following web page. http://stormrusa.com/sizing/

Please send me a correlation table between body size and Stormr Mens Typhoon Jackets size
The new jackets fit is a little closer to normal sizing. We did build some extra room in them for layering. If the person around 6ft or taller they should stick with their normal size. If they are looking for a tighter fit and they aren't 6ft or taller they should go down a size.
on September 20, 2012
I am 6ft and wear a 44 jacket and weigh 200lbs with a 35" waist so following the sizing chart I ordered an XL way to big around the midsection and under the arms, will order the large. Not sure how that sizing chart makes sense. I bought the jacket because I don't really like to layer up maybe an undershirt and a heavy long sleeve shirt. would be what I would wear underneath.
