Quality Rods that made me a striper pro!
August 1, 2018
This is my second set of Maja Rods, part of the system that trolls bunker spoons for big bass. Tony Maja spent a lifetime perfecting this approach so those of us who use it can catch stripers like a pro. And the rods do all the work so trolling wire is no longer drudgery. Get the rods and all the Maja gear, find a how to article or video and become a striper pro!

Quality Built Rod

You will not be disappointed with this rod. The rod is made with quality parts and for a good price. The rods work amazing with bunker spoons and it really does make a difference. I have no complaints other than I didn't buy it sooner and I wish I never bought cheaper imitation on ebay. Highly recommend and I now have two. I matched it with a Penn 113HSP.

Bought 2 of these rods for the spoons I've been collecting. I paired them with okuma cw-453d reels loaded with braid backer and 300' of monel. The rods have a nice pump to then.

Not only is the tip soft and helps the action of your spoons but it has enough (Meat) Strength to pick up a 50+ lb with no problem what so ever!

Nice Rod but not for the price
October 24, 2014
This is a nice rod but for the price I'd rather get a Penn international V. The rod is strong and the eyes seem to hold up nice also.

The action is exactly what you need to give a spoon the correct action. Used it and caught fish. Great rod!

I understand that Tony designed these to use steel line.  I don't use this kind of line.  Would it be possible to use 60 lb or 100 lb braid with this and a TM bunker spoon?  What size leader

should I use?

1 Answer
You can certainly use braid, you just may have to add an inline trolling weight to get the spoon down to your desired depth. 65lb braid and 60lb mono or fluorocarbon leader depending on the conditions is what we would recommend.

Iâ€â"¢ve never had one in hand , but can you tell me if there is a specific reason to use the rods and spoons together ? Or can a good 6 foot conventional with a Talica 8 or beefier rod and a talica 12? Braid 50 lb Does the rod give any advantage over another good conventional ? Thanks
1 Answer
The rod that is sold for these spoons are designed for bunker spoon trolling. They are built to work the spoon properly and get the most action out of them.

Are these rods only used for trolling Bunker Spoons, or can they be used for MOJOs, Umbrella rigs..
1 Answer
I personally would not use the Tony Maja rods for anything other than the bunker spoons. They are a little fast action for anything heavier. I would recommend using a rod in the 50lb test range and in the moderate action range as well. A rod with a heavier backbone and stiffer action is recommended.

I would like to purchase 2 of the Tony Maja Bunker spoon rods but I fish deep water which reels would you recommend that I could put 350yds 50lb wire with backing and mono leader?
1 Answer
We use the Penn 113H2SP for wire line. I am sure you meant 350 feet of 50lb Monel. That is what we rig with is usually 300 feet. You will need the #4 spoons and will have much success with this setup.
